Washington, April 16 /Xin Hua/ — U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that negotiations between Israel and Lebanon will take place on Thursday.
“We are trying to create a small space for Israel and Lebanon. The leaders of these countries have not communicated for a very long time — 34 years. This will happen tomorrow,” wrote D. Trump on the social network Truth Social.
According to the statement of the U.S. State Department, on Tuesday in Washington, a meeting took place between representatives of Israel and Lebanon, during which Israel insisted on the disarmament of the “Hezbollah” group, while Lebanon called for a ceasefire and the adoption of concrete measures to alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis caused by the American-Israeli war with Iran.
All parties agreed to begin direct negotiations at a time and place mutually agreed upon by them. The meeting became the first major contact at a high level between Israel and Lebanon since 1993, according to the statement.
