The Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor), as part of the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” has completed the major overhaul of the bridge over the Kuholka River at the 86th kilometer of the A-104 Moscow – Dmitrov – Dubna highway in the Dmitrov urban district of the Moscow region. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“Maintaining the road network in regulatory condition is one of our key tasks. The reliability of bridges, overpasses, and interchanges directly affects the safety and comfort of millions of people. The Moscow region, for example, is one of the most dynamically developing in the country. It has a high population density, huge transit flow, and numerous daily trips of people to work and back home. Under such conditions, updating existing infrastructure is just as important as building new highways. At the 86th km of the A-104 route, a major overhaul was carried out on the bridge over the Kukholka River, which is especially important considering the modernization of Dmitrovskoye Highway. This is an important route that connects the northeastern districts of the Moscow region with the capital and is part of the federal highways network forming the transport framework of the central regions of Russia. More than 40 thousand vehicles pass through here daily. Thanks to the work done, traffic has become safer, and the area has additional opportunities for development,” said Marat Khusnullin.
During the major overhaul, specialists planned for the future development of Dmitrovskoye Highway: the bridge was immediately brought up to specifications that will allow for full four-lane traffic in the future (currently, the existing two-lane traffic scheme will be maintained). Subsequently, after the adjacent sections of the road are expanded, the four-lane bridge will provide the appropriate traffic capacity without the need for additional work or traffic restrictions.
When constructing the bridge deck, a sprayed waterproofing membrane based on bitumen-polymer was applied, and a two-layer asphalt concrete pavement was installed, consisting of hot-poured mixture and stone mastic asphalt.
Drainage was provided using edge concrete troughs that direct the water flow to the receiving wells of the complex wastewater treatment plants. Bank protection work and measures to strengthen the embankment against erosion were also carried out.
