On September 29, in 10 cinemas of the “Moskino” chain, subordinate to the capital Department of Culture, there will be free screenings. They will be timed to the 90th anniversary of Alla Demidova, a Soviet and Russian theater and film actress, master of artistic expression, and teacher. The program includes the drama “A Bottomless Bag” and the fairy tale “The Scarlet Flower.”
“Bottomless Bag” is a Russian historical dramatic film directed by Rustam Khamdamov. The screenplay is based on Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s short story “In a Grove.” The black-and-white film refers to the Silver Age, Russian modernism, and the aesthetics of the “World of Art” movement. The action takes place in Russia in the second half of the 19th century, during the reign of Emperor Alexander II. To distract the Grand Duke from sadness and melancholy, a lady-in-waiting comes to his palace. She begins to tell a story that occurred in the 13th century. In a remote forest, a strange crime occurs. Witnesses and participants share their versions of events, which radically change the picture of what happened, but the truth slips away, turning into a philosophical parable. Screenings will be held at the “Kosmos,” “Iskra,” “Saturn,” “Mars,” “Neva,” “Rassvet,” and “Elbrus” cinemas.
“The Scarlet Flower” is a Soviet adaptation of the work of the same name by Sergey Aksakov. Irina Povolotskaya directed this film at the Gorky Film Studio. Viewers can expect a classic story about a beauty and a beast. The film will be shown in the “Sputnik,” “Vympel,” and “Zhukovsky” cinemas.
You can attend the film screenings for free, by prior registration.
