Muscovites over 55 actively participate in city projects thanks to development “silver” volunteering. Today, they are involved in all areas of volunteer activities. “Silver” volunteers weave camouflage nets in centers “Good Place”, make trench candles, knit items for premature babies, and master digital technologies. Many of the volunteers themselves initiate projects and become mentors for young helpers.

“More than 100,000 senior volunteers from the capital have joined in organizing district, city, and nationwide events. ‘Silver’ volunteers daily remind us how important it is to share our time and love with others. The life experience, wisdom, and skills of Muscovites over 55 make them indispensable participants in all volunteer projects,” said the director of the resource center.

“Mosvolonter” Alexander Levit.

Gain new knowledge and share experience

Senior volunteers in the capital participate in events organized by the Moscow Regional Volunteer Center “Young at Heart,” which operates based at the resource center “Mosvolonter.” To choose an activity, it is enough to visit the website mosvolonter.ru in the section “Events” and use a special age filter.

On the Day of the Older Generation, “silver” volunteers will join the interactive platform “Point of Attraction” at the city forum “Live 100%!”. They will welcome guests, assist at interactive areas, introduce participants to projects of the “Mosvolunteer” resource center, and create a festive atmosphere.

This year, for the first time, a series of practical classes called “AI Environment” has started for elderly city residents. The course is dedicated to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life. Its goal is to help participants overcome their uncertainty toward new technologies and to show that neural networks are not complicated.

In the classes, the teacher teaches how to create effective text queries and implement AI technologies in daily volunteer activities and personal life. Graduates of the course will later be able to conduct similar master classes for people of their own age.

Within the framework of the “Angelochki” project, “silver” volunteers not only weave products for premature babies but also share their skills with city residents. With the support of the resource center “Mosvolonter,” they conduct free workshops on creating therapeutic products from special yarn. In 2025, volunteers delivered more than four thousand unique warm items to medical institutions through the “Right to a Miracle” foundation. In 2026, the number of items delivered has already exceeded three thousand.

In the “Kind Owls” project, senior volunteers teach the basics of journalism to cadets and Suvorovites in the “Young Military Correspondent School,” coordinate issues of the “KaDetskie Vesti” newspaper, and organize the all-Russian “Photo for Mom” campaign during Victory Day parades. Volunteers also conduct creative workshops on sewing gear and assist with logistics of humanitarian cargo for hospitals.

As part of the “Good Masters” project, volunteers over 55 years old become mentors for newcomers. They teach young volunteers the culture of communication during visits to social institutions and conduct creative activities for the wards together.

The “Silver Routes” project allows concerned senior citizens to independently develop and conduct original tours of Moscow for volunteers. This helps to discover new facets of the capital and strengthen internal community bonds.

Continuous support

Ambassador of the “Volunteers of Moscow,” Lyubov Emelyanova has been helping the capital for many years. Together with like-minded people, she weaves camouflage nets with individual patterns, organizes games with military-historical miniatures, and visits wards of social and gerontological institutions. Recently, Lyubov Emelyanova began studying AI in the course at the “Mosvolonter” resource center.

“We all interact with artificial intelligence in one way or another. Some talk to a smart speaker, write poetry or music, make doctor’s appointments, or pay utility bills. The first homework assignment was to get acquainted with neural networks through requests about leisure activities, cooking recipes, and editing letters. Since I spent half of my work time on the computer testing specialized software, this comes easily to me. However, progress does not stand still, knowledge gradually becomes outdated,” shared the volunteer.

She immediately applied the new knowledge in practice: she wrote prompts and generated three texts. However, she plans to use AI only for editing and proofreading, and will continue to write the materials herself.
