In five years, capital repairs have been completed in more than 7,000 schools in Russia. Extensive work is being carried out within the framework of the “Modernization of school education systems” program, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Education together with the regions.

The interim results were presented by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.

“The government pays special attention to creating comfortable conditions for teachers’ work and students’ learning, as well as ensuring the accessibility and quality of education in all regions of the country. By order of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, a major school renovation program is being implemented in Russia. The work is being carried out within the framework of the national project ‘Youth and Children.’ By 2026, major renovations will have been completed in more than 650 school buildings across the country,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The program is aimed at creating a modern, safe, and comfortable educational environment for children. Special attention is given to schools in rural areas and small settlements.

“Over the past five years, more than 7,000 buildings have already been renovated. Today, major repairs include not only the replacement of windows, roofs, or engineering communications. Along with this, modern classrooms, sports and creative spaces are being created, equipment, libraries, dining halls, and food units are being updated. Our common goal is that no matter where a child lives — in a large city or a small settlement — they study in a comfortable and safe environment,” commented Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.

The leaders among the entities in implementing the program included the republics of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Mordovia, the Chechen Republic, and the Moscow region. 1,997 schools have been renovated at the expense of regional budgets.

The works include the renovation of facades and roofs, engineering systems, classrooms, gymnasiums, libraries, cafeterias, and other premises. At the same time, schools receive new equipment and furniture, and teachers undergo professional development. Engineering-technological and medical-biological classes are opened in the institutions, and classrooms for natural sciences, mathematics, humanities, and socio-economic cycles are equipped.

It should be noted that regional public oversight headquarters monitor the progress of repair work, as well as the procurement and delivery of equipment. Schoolchildren, parents, teachers, representatives of public organizations, and government authorities participate in the monitoring.

The school major renovation program is being implemented by order of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. It was originally planned for 2022-2026 and then extended until 2030. It is currently being carried out as part of the national project “Youth and Children.”
