The infrastructure of the Moskinо cinema park, overseen by the capital’s Department of Culture, continues to actively develop. It currently includes eight shooting pavilions, as well as 74 outdoor and interior sets. Among the new additions is the “Fairy Tale City” site. Here you can see a three-story terem, towers 25–30 meters tall, a terem with a conical roof decorated with stained glass, wood carving, and ceramic mosaic elements, as well as houses in the Art Nouveau style with weather vanes and spires.
“Fairy Tale City”
This decoration is located next to the already operating natural sets “The Hills” and “Modern Moscow,” as well as a new warehouse complex. The appearance of the “Fairy Tale City” combines the neo-Russian style, based on the traditions of folk art, and the aesthetics of Art Nouveau. The creators of the buildings were inspired by the works of artists and architectural solutions from the late 19th to early 20th century. It was during this period that ancient Russian and national motifs acquired a new artistic expression.
“Fairy Tale City” is a complex consisting of 30 buildings, located on an area of 3.4 hectares. The total building area is 22,435 square meters. The architectural ensemble is distinguished by a variety of designs: here stand side by side one- and two-story wooden houses, a brick building, and a stone church. Different numbers of stories, differing shapes of foundations, silhouettes, and roof configurations give the space an expressive multilayered richness and density.
The stone church plays a special role in the composition. Its facades are decorated in a white-pink-red color scheme, complemented by painting and mosaic decoration made of ceramic tiles, and the domes are brightly painted. The ensemble is completed by a fortress wall, which extends over 400 meters, with watch towers and entrance gates.
Visitors can pass through the city gates and find themselves inside an ancient Russian fairy-tale town. At the same time, the space is not tied to any single plot — it can be transformed into an ancient city, a fantastic kingdom, or a setting for some other story. This makes the decorations highly versatile for film and television projects.
The site is planned to include play areas for children, a café, and a souvenir shop, as well as functional rooms for filming crews: dressing rooms and costume rooms, a locker room, spaces for creative activities and workshops. The well-thought-out infrastructure and the richness of architectural solutions make “Fairy Tale City” attractive both for visitors and for film industry professionals.
New filming studios
This year, the infrastructure of the MosKino film park expanded due to two new shooting studios. Their heights are 20 and 24 meters, and the total area reaches 4.6 thousand square meters. The studios are equipped with dressing rooms and everything necessary for the productive work of film crews.
New outdoor sets have also been opened in the film park. Among them is the “Palace,” located in the “Battlefield” area. Its location is convenient for filming battle scenes, including those involving pyrotechnics.
The “Modern Moscow” set recreates the most in-demand urban facilities and allows for complex shootings without lengthy approvals in restricted areas of the capital. It includes a government service center, a school, a kindergarten, and even an underground passage. Using the “European City” set, one can accurately reproduce urban landscapes from the times of the First and Second World Wars, as well as film historical scenes from the 17th to 19th centuries.
Another set — “The Reichstag” — meticulously replicates the appearance of the building in Berlin at the end of World War II. This site hosted Igor Ugolnikov’s immersive performance “Victory! Banner over the Reichstag,” worked on the film of the same name, and held patriotic events.
Next to the “Reichstag” and the “European City” is the “Fortress” set, covering an area of about 11,000 square meters. This is a full-fledged fortification structure with a drawbridge, fortress gates, and a moat. It is part of the site complex “Battlefield”.
New venues The MosKino film park was opened on August 27 by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatiana Golikova and the Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin.
The MosKino cinema park is an important part of Sergey Sobyanin’s project “Moscow — City of Cinema” and a significant facility of the Moscow film cluster, whose development is overseen by Department of Culture. Currently, there are eight shooting pavilions and 74 natural and interior sets operating on the territory of the film park, including “Brest Fortress,” “Provincial Cities of Europe,” “Yuzovka,” “Mines,” “European City,” “Modern Moscow,” “Reichstag,” “Russian Medieval City,” “Cities of Eastern Europe,” and other locations.
The Moscow film cluster unites infrastructure, services, and amenities for film producers. It is being developed by Government of Moscow as part of the project “Moscow — City of Cinema.” The cluster includes the Moskino film park, Gorky Film Studio (facilities on Sergei Eisenstein Street and Valdaysky Passage), the Moskino film factory, the Moskino cinema network, the Moscow Film Commission, and the Moscow Film Platform.
A large-scale project is presented on the mos.ru portal special project, dedicated to the development of key sectors of Moscow. Among them are transport, industry, healthcare, education, sports, and construction. The special project helps to understand how the capital has changed in recent years, what initiatives aimed at making the lives of residents even more comfortable are currently being implemented, and what awaits Moscow and its inhabitants in the near future.
On the project page “Culture, Heritage, and Leisure Industry” It is possible to learn about how architectural monuments are preserved in the capital. Moscow is the cultural center of the country and ranks among the leading megacities in terms of the number of museums and exhibition halls. A film cluster has been created in the city, uniting the MosKino film factory on Ryazansky Prospekt, the Gorky Film Studio, and the MosKino film park.
