In February – March, consumer demand decreased in most macro-regions. In some of them, sales of electronics and household appliances, building materials, and home goods declined. In many macro-regions, visitation to public catering establishments decreased. At the same time, in a number of regions, interest in purchasing passenger cars increased in March. Retailers’ short-term demand expectations improved in April.
Economic activity in most industries has slowed down. Furniture manufacturers in Central Russia and ferrous metallurgy enterprises in the Northwest have cut production amid declining demand. At the same time, high demand and investments in capacity expansion have allowed for an increase in fertilizer production in the South.
The price level in March remained elevated and almost unchanged compared to February.
