From September 24 to 27, the fifth exhibition “PROrestoration. Import substitution in restoration materials and technologies” will showcase advanced domestic solutions for the restoration of historical and cultural monuments. Participants and guests can expect a rich business program. Over four days, round tables, plenary sessions, lectures, and discussions dedicated to the issues of preserving cultural and historical heritage are planned to be held. This was reported by the head of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the city of Moscow Alexey Emelyanov.

“The business program of the exhibition fulfills a strategic task: it brings together leading architects, restorers, technologists, and material manufacturers to develop joint solutions. This year, this part of the exhibition will include more than 200 events: various round tables, sections, and lectures. Within the framework of discussions, we do not just address current issues such as import substitution or the implementation of new technologies. We are shaping the future of the entire industry: talking about training young professionals and sharing successful practices for preserving architectural monuments,” noted Aleksey Emelyanov.

For industry experts

Among the key topics scheduled for discussion are control and supervisory activities for the preservation of historical and cultural monuments, restoration of cultural heritage sites, their popularization, interaction with investors and patrons, preservation of archaeological heritage, and more. Foreign experts from Armenia, Belarus, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan will participate in the discussion “International Experience in the Restoration of Historical and Cultural Monuments.” Participants in the round tables will also discuss issues related to the preservation of cultural heritage sites of the peoples of the Russian Federation, innovations in design and state examination of projects, preservation of cultural heritage sites in border areas and new regions, the intricacies of the work of restoration engineers and restoration technologists. In addition, the discussion will cover modern technologies in design and execution of works, import substitution, adaptation of cultural heritage sites for modern use, and artificial intelligence services in restoration.

At the session with investors and philanthropists, examples of successfully implemented projects for the preservation of cultural heritage sites will be discussed. The conversation will focus on the project economics and return on investment for investors, legal mechanisms, business motivation, and the role of private investments in the revival and development of historical territories.

For young restorers

Traditionally, a student scientific conference will be held as part of the exhibition. This year, it will include participants from 13 higher and secondary professional education institutions from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Donetsk, Penza, and other cities.

The theme of the conference will be the preservation of cultural heritage. Students will be able to talk about their scientific and practical works. The topics of the reports are always quite extensive: they include the restoration of specific painting, stone, and wood objects, as well as experience in restoration practice on cultural heritage sites. For example, this year a student from the A.N. Kosygin Russian State University will present a report titled “Preservation of historical interiors in conditions of multifunctional use based on the example of the Stalin-era residential skyscraper at Krasnye Vorota from 1953.”

Research works will also be presented. For example, students of the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering will cover the topic “Graphic reconstruction of the Fishermen’s settlement in the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky.” Great attention will also be paid to the issues of adapting monuments to modern conditions. In particular, a student from the A.N. Kosygin Russian State University will present a report titled “Preservation of the historical interior under conditions of multifunctional use on the example of a residential Stalinist skyscraper at Krasnye Vorota, 1953.”
