A new project has launched in “Active Citizen” voting, dedicated to six houses where famous Muscovites lived. All of them were refurbished this year By the Capital Repair Fund. The buildings represent different architectural styles — from Art Nouveau to Soviet neoclassicism. Citizens are invited to choose the most beautiful of the structures.

You can vote for houses on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, Pravda and Novoslobodskaya streets, Mira and Leningradsky avenues, as well as in Malyy Kozikhinsky Lane. At different times, these houses were inhabited by famous Soviet athletes, pilots, scientists, artists, and writers.

You can choose up to three preferred options.

Which houses are represented in the voting

One of the buildings is located on Malyy Kozikhinskiy Lane (house 4). It was built in the early 20th century according to the design of architect S.S. Schutzman. The political figure and engineer Pyotr Yurenev lived here. The facade of the five-story building, done in the Art Nouveau style, is adorned with two semicircular bay windows, and the niches on the second and third floors are decorated with cartouches and panels.

At building 44 on Leningradsky Prospekt lived the aviator Valentina Grizodubova, the physicist Andrey Yastrzhembsky, and his son, the renowned historian Lev Yastrzhembsky. The six-story building is designed in the post-constructivist style with elements of neoclassicism. It was constructed in 1937 according to an individual project by architects Boris Leybo and Arnold Suris. Originally, the building was intended for the leaders and lecturers of the N.E. Zhukovsky Air Force Academy.

The building at 54/56 Novoslobodskaya Street was constructed in 1950. Its architectural appearance is complemented by massive portals of the entrance groups, a rusticated facade, balconies with balustrades, and stucco decoration. At different times, it was home to the writer Galina Nikolaeva, People’s Artist of the USSR Nikolai Mordvinov, as well as recipients of the title “Hero of the Soviet Union”: Major General of Armored Forces Ivan Veremey and test pilot Boris Veremey.

Among the participants in the vote are several houses in the style of Soviet neoclassicism. Their residents over the years included test pilot Pavel Chupikov, graphic artist Lev Shepelev, and well-known figures of Soviet sports: multiple world and Olympic champion, hockey player Viktor Kuzkin, football coach Mikhail Yakushin, and football player Sergey Solovyov.

Additional information about the architectural features of each building can be found in the section “More details”.

Users will receive points in the city loyalty program for participating in the vote “Million of Prizes”. They can be used to obtain goods and services from program partners or directed to charity. All available methods for redeeming points are published on the website “Million Prizes”.

Preserving the architectural heritage of the capital

The restoration work on the buildings was carried out as part of the regional capital repair programs for apartment buildings. This is the largest residential renovation project in Russia. More than 30,000 buildings with a total area of over 320 million square meters will be given a new life.

Since 2015, around 16 thousand buildings have been repaired in Moscow. Among them are typical multi-story and income houses, as well as buildings that are architectural monuments. Specialists restore the historic appearance of the capital’s buildings while simultaneously renewing their main structural elements and engineering systems. This makes it possible to preserve Moscow’s architectural heritage for future generations.

The capital repair projects for apartment buildings in the capital align with the goals and objectives of the national project “Infrastructure for Life”.

“Active Citizen” has been operating since 2014. During this time, more than seven million people have joined it, and over 7,900 votes have taken place in total. Every month, from 30 to 40 decisions of Muscovites are implemented in the city. The project is developed by the State Public Institution “New Management Technologies” and the capital city Department of Information Technology.

The creation and development of e-government infrastructure, including the provision of socially significant services and services in electronic form, correspond to the objectives of the national project “Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State” and the regional project of Moscow “Digital Public Administration.”
