Since the beginning of the summer navigation season, the municipal fleet has collected 390 tons of garbage from the capital’s waterways. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement. Pyotr Biryukov.
“Utility vessels operate daily to collect garbage from the water surface of the Moscow River and the navigable part of the Yauza, eliminate pollution, and remove silt sediment. In total, 390 tons of various waste have already been collected,” noted Petr Biryukov.
The main part of the garbage collector vessels, with the opening of the summer navigation, operated in the upper reaches of the Moscow River near the locks. This allowed for the prompt removal of waste accumulated over the winter and prevented it from entering the central part of the capital with intensive shipping traffic.
Specialized garbage-collecting vessels collect trash from the water area, while small boats operate in shallow waters. Floating cranes and non-self-propelled barges with tugs are used to extract bottom deposits of sand and soil. Thanks to the proper arrangement of the fleet and waste collection bases, the entire water area of the Moskva River and the navigable section of the Yauza within the MKAD are under round-the-clock supervision.
Head urban economy complex emphasized that the capital’s utility fleet operates year-round. In winter, ice-class vessels capable of breaking through ice up to 20 centimeters thick go out on the water. At the same time, the main part of the fleet undergoes scheduled maintenance and current repairs.
