In the capital’s hospitals, the cultural program, which has become part of the healing environment concept, is being expanded. Since June of this year, about five thousand patients and healthcare workers have attended concerts and performances. In the fall, new institutions joined the project, and the number of venues nearly doubled. This was reported by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.
“In the capital, we are developing the philosophy of healthy longevity, and one of its components is creating a healing environment in Moscow’s clinics and hospitals. This includes not only thoughtful architecture and comfortable spaces but also an atmosphere that helps patients cope more easily with treatment and helps staff maintain their energy for work. One of the directions of this concept has become a joint project with
By the Department of Culture of the city of Moscow, which adds a cultural component to hospital life: concerts, performances, museum exhibitions, and much more. Art becomes a full participant in treatment: it does not distract from the illness but helps patients feel better. A properly organized space provides calmness and psychological balance, necessary for the start of therapy and mobilization of the body’s resources. In the first months of the project’s implementation, we received many positive reviews, and about five thousand people have already attended the concerts. In the fall, leading theater and music groups will continue performing in hospitals, with the number of venues nearly doubling,
In September, the initiative was joined by the Z.A. Bashlyaeva Children’s City Clinical Hospital, the V.V. Veresaev City Clinical Hospital, and the V.M. Buyanov City Clinical Hospital, as well as other institutions. On September 17, the Moscow Children’s Puppet Theater performed at the Z.A. Bashlyaeva City Clinical Hospital. Subsequently, inpatient departments will present their own productions and musical numbers featuring Theater T, the Mosconcert soloists ensemble, the State Academic Central Puppet Theater named after S.V. Obraztsov, tenor Ilya Khardikov, the State Chamber Orchestra Virtuosos of Moscow, and others.
“For patients and doctors, 25 music concerts, performances, and exhibitions have already taken place. Our creative teams performed for the guests: at the City Clinical Hospital No. 15 named after O.M. Filatov, compositions were performed by the artists of the ‘Turetsky Choir,’ and for the young audience from the Saint Vladimir Children’s City Clinical Hospital, performances were given by artists from the S.V. Obraztsov Puppet Theater. Also, museum exhibitions dedicated to the history of decorative and applied arts and domestic cosmonautics were opened in three hospitals. In the autumn, leading theater and musical groups will continue to perform in hospitals, with six more medical institutions joining the project,” said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the Moscow Department of Culture.
The project continues work on creating a healing environment in medical institutions. This concept suggests that the conditions in which treatment takes place can affect a person’s well-being and emotional state. Thoughtful architecture and lighting, works of art, and creative activities help reduce stress and make the stay in the hospital more comfortable.
