From June 1 to August 31, 669 projects by curators of the Center for Traffic Management (CTM) were implemented in Moscow. During this period, 296 new pedestrian crossings and 103 safety islands were equipped in the city, lanes were added on 93 sections, speed limits were changed on 78 streets, and waffle markings were applied at 30 intersections. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.

“Road safety remains our primary priority in accordance with the transport development strategy until 2030, approved by Sergey Sobyanin. Over the summer, specialists from TsODD implemented 669 projects on the streets of the capital. These include new crosswalks and safety islands, additional lanes, speed limit changes, and other targeted solutions. Each such project is developed for a specific area: specialists take into account accident rates, traffic and pedestrian flow intensity, urban infrastructure development, and feedback from Muscovites,” said Maksim Liksutov.

Most of the projects by road supervisors are implemented in the warm season, when weather conditions allow for work such as marking, setting up crossings, safety islands, and other changes on the street and road network.

At the request of residents, two controlled pedestrian crossings were installed in the summer — in the village of Vlasovo near house 52/2, building 1, and near house 1, building 1 on Zavod Serp i Molot Passage. This helped to organize vehicle and pedestrian traffic and improve the safety of routes to the stops, children’s library No. 126, and the preschool department of the Sodruzhestvo school.

Two more unregulated crosswalks appeared near house 28 on Izumrudnaya Street and next to house 6 on Lavrinenko Street — they have made the route to Torfyanka Park, residential buildings, bus stops, the school in Nekrasovka, the preschool department of school No. 2048, and Black Lake safer. And near house 27 on Donetskaya Street, artificial bumps were installed. They will allow residents to cross the road more safely and comfortably, and drivers to notice the pedestrian crossing in advance, reduce speed, and stop in time.

This year, the markings will be updated on nearly 28,000 pedestrian crossingsThe intersection capacity in the Novomoskovsky district increased by 42 percent due to re-marking

In addition, comprehensive projects were implemented. On Projected Passage No. 684, three uncontrolled pedestrian crossings and eight safety islands were arranged. Now pedestrians can wait in the middle of the road and continue on their way, making sure that drivers yield to them. And on Abelmanovskaya Street, waffle markings were applied at four intersections at once — with 3rd Krutitsky Lane, Volgograd Avenue, Vorontsovskaya Street, and Marksistskaya Street. These are used in sections with heavy traffic to prevent intersection blocking, increase safety, and improve traffic flow.

In addition, the traffic management specialists made targeted changes. For example, on Kakhovskaya Street before the intersection with Odesskaya, a regulated U-turn was created; a roundabout was installed near house number 18 on Brateevskaya Street. Additional lanes were added on Zhitnaya, Venevskaya, and Matveyevskaya streets; the direction of traffic lanes under the overpass on Rublyovskoye Highway was changed; and acceleration-deceleration lanes were built on the Moscow Ring Road at the 80th, 79th, and 78th kilometers. All these changes allow vehicles to pass intersections faster and more safely, move smoothly without sharp maneuvers, and also reduce the risk of accidents and conflict situations.

More than 100 initiatives for TSODD projects to ensure the safety of schoolchildren on the roads have been implemented in MoscowMore than 50 safety islands and over 70 pedestrian crossings will appear in Moscow by the end of 2026

The implementation of such projects allows for improving traffic flow without large-scale street reconstruction. By changing road markings, traffic light operation modes, and local schemes, specialists reduce dangerous maneuvers, make pedestrian routes more convenient, and increase the throughput capacity of certain sections.

The road supervisors at the Moscow Traffic Management Center annually implement about a thousand projects to improve traffic in Moscow. These include new pedestrian crossings, safety islands, traffic lights, additional lanes, re-marking, speed limit changes, and other solutions. They help make the streets safer and more convenient for drivers, public transport passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and users of personal mobility devices.

Specialists regularly study the traffic situation in each district of Moscow. They take into account accident rates, traffic intensity, residents’ appeals, the development of urban infrastructure, the emergence of new residential areas, metro stations, Moscow Central Diameters, stops, schools, clinics, and other popular places. Based on this, targeted solutions are proposed that help improve traffic on specific streets.

Over 100 new pedestrian crossings and more than 20 safety islands have appeared in Moscow this yearOver 500 major projects for the re-marking of Moscow roads have been implemented by the Center for Traffic Management over 10 years
