In September, with the support of Moscow Export Center (MEC) 15 capital-based high-tech and IT companies participated in the international Gitex Nigeria exhibition in Lagos — the largest city in Nigeria and all of Africa. At the collective Made in Moscow booth, manufacturers presented potential partners in the African market with developments in unmanned systems, IT solutions, banking equipment, fire protection equipment, and other technological products.

The exhibition became a platform for direct negotiations and assessment of demand for Moscow innovations in one of the largest markets in Africa. Nigeria is among the leading countries on the continent by GDP volume. Its market comprises nearly 240 million people. This makes the country one of the most promising directions for technology exports. By the end of 2025, Moscow’s share in the all-Russian non-commodity, non-energy export to Nigeria was 50.3 percent. Participation in Gitex Nigeria and meetings with key Nigerian institutions is a step towards a long-term presence of Moscow companies in the African direction.

The opening ceremony of the Made in Moscow booth was attended by the CEO of MEC Vitaly Stepanov and the digital attaché of the Russian Federation in Nigeria Sergey Kalinin.

“Participation in Gitex Nigeria was an important step in building long-term relationships with Nigerian businesses. We held a series of substantive negotiations with regulators, financial institutions, and free economic zone operators, discussed mechanisms for integrating Moscow solutions into national programs and standards, as well as opportunities to launch pilot projects. I am confident that these contacts will become the foundation for a sustainable presence of Moscow companies in the African market. We expect to continue the dialogue with partners from Nigeria in October in Moscow on the sidelines of the third Russia–Africa summit,” noted Vitaly Stepanov.

From unmanned systems to educational solutions

The exhibition showcased key areas of high technology, including a section on unmanned aerial systems and educational solutions. For example, the company “Fortex” presented educational quadcopter kits and infrastructure solutions for training specialists, while “Argus-M” exhibited unmanned aerial systems, telescopic masts, and inflatable lighting stations.

A significant part of the exhibition was devoted to information technologies and software. The company “Rusbitex-Astra” demonstrated the secure operating system Astra Linux and an ecosystem of products for building a secure IT infrastructure. “IT Vektura” presented solutions for logistics and supply chain management, and “Tango Vision” showcased an AI platform for creating digital twins and 3D navigation, which is in demand in smart city projects and transport hubs.

AI-based services also came into focus. NtechLab demonstrated video analytics with high-speed recognition of faces, silhouettes, human actions, vehicles, and license plates. SDN-Video LLC presented technologies for speeding up websites and applications, video streaming, and generative AI. UralInnovation showcased a platform for customer communications and the creation of intelligent agents, while Viar Supersonic displayed VR equipment and a platform for training communication skills using AI. In addition, interest was sparked by the ASTER extension from IBIK, which allows creating additional workstations on a single computer.

Business program

As part of the business program, the Moscow delegation headed by Vitaly Stepanov held a series of meetings with representatives of key Nigerian institutions: the Ministry of Trade, Cooperation and Investment of Lagos State, the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, as well as with the leadership of the free economic zones Alaro City and Snake Island and representatives of the leading pan-African platform Africa Comicade. It unites video game developers, artists, animators, and representatives of the continent’s creative industries.

The participants of the negotiations discussed the conditions for Moscow companies to enter the Nigerian market, the establishment of cooperation with local companies, the organization of targeted B2B meetings, technology transfer, and the use of Moscow’s innovation infrastructure opportunities. Within the framework of the business program, 125 targeted meetings were held. As a result, Moscow manufacturers noted a high interest in their developments and also received requests for the supply of trial batches of goods.

The exhibition became a continuation of the systematic work of MEC to strengthen the positions of capital high-tech companies in the African direction. In the coming months, as part of the Made in Moscow program, two more business events will be held on the continent. From October 6 to 8, a business mission to the Republic of South Africa in the fields of medicine and IT will take place, and from October 27 to 29, a reverse business mission with partners from Kenya in similar industries will be held.
