At the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve, another important stage of improvement work has been completed. Sergey Sobyanin spoke about this in detail in his blog.
“In 2025, as part of the first phase, we created a modern recreational area along the Tsar’s Embankment and reconstructed the pier. Now it is one of the best attractions for city residents with entertainment for all ages. Over eight million people visited it in just one year. At the same time, we completed the restoration of several cultural heritage sites. Among them is one of Russia’s main symbols—the Church of the Ascension in Kolomenskoye, as well as federal monuments ‘Sytny Dvor’ and ‘Peter I’s House’,” said the Mayor of Moscow.
To more evenly distribute the recreational load and make the rest at the museum-reserve as comfortable as possible, comprehensive work continued this year.
During the second phase, specialists carried out extensive work underground, upgrading and reinforcing engineering systems and communications, many of which had long exceeded their service life. Then they restored the grounds of the Stables Yard, as well as the farms of the peasant and the blacksmith. They replaced the perimeter fences, installed lanterns, and relaid the paths: in some places using tiles and granite screenings, in others — cobblestones.
In addition, the venue for large-scale cultural and mass events was upgraded, and the Falcon Yard — a museum complex dedicated to the traditions of falconry in Russia — was modernized. The reconstruction improved the conditions for keeping the birds. Specialists repaired the falconer’s house, and the museum exhibition was made interactive. The yard ensemble now includes a new pristine white canopy and a visitor center with a facade made of decorative panels that blend harmoniously with the surroundings.

A new walking area has been opened near Sokoliny Dvor — an alley with swings where people can relax both together and alone. In the evening, soft artistic lighting turns on for the swings.
Nearby, four observation decks have been equipped, two of which have convenient descents to the water.
Special attention was given to the famous apple orchards of “Kolomenskoye.” Of the six historic orchards, three have survived to this day: Voznesensky, Dyakovsky, and Kazansky. Now, the Kazansky orchard is adorned with original art objects: the composition “Apples in the Garden” and the sculpture “Falcon with Branches.” At its edge, a new recreational area has appeared with an unusual mirrored art object.
Near the Voznesensky Garden, two small ponds were tidied up — one near the beekeeper’s estate and one of the ponds near Peter I’s house, which is called the saucer. The paths around them were covered with granite screenings, pergolas with swings were installed. On the pond’s shore near the beekeeper’s estate, an art object of two intertwined hearts was installed, and the “Alley of Love” was renovated, now adorned with atmospheric arches.
Work was also carried out on Voznesenskaya Square: the tile paving was repaired, a new railing for the observation deck was installed, and lanterns and benches in a historic style were set up.
Modern lighting, surveillance cameras, and a public address system have been installed in the Tsar’s Court.
A themed playground called “Hare’s Glade” was created for young visitors. The equipment was custom-made according to an individual design. The space was divided into five play areas for children aged from one to 14 years. Here you can find the “Carrot” canopy, “Rabbit Burrows” tunnels, musical modules, and much more.
New checkpoint booths (CPBs) have been installed at the entrances to the museum-reserve. These are light pavilions with smooth shapes and panoramic glazing, made in a neutral white color. The facades are decorated with perforated panels featuring silhouettes of the main monuments of the museum-reserve, which are impressively illuminated in the evenings.
Inside the checkpoint, depending on the size, in addition to security posts, there will be visitor centers with ticket offices, mother-and-child rooms, as well as restrooms. For the safety of guests, a new reliable video surveillance system has been installed at the entrances and throughout the territory.
In the museum-reserve, paths and walkways have been renewed, reliable drainage and water runoff systems have been arranged, and lighting has been modernized. For the comfort of guests, more cozy rest areas have been created and new stationary toilets installed.
“We are currently in the third phase of the work. Soon we plan to start overhauling the paving near the palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich and renewing the coverings in the Dyakovo settlement. Subsequently, we intend to refurbish the gorodki playing field and the workout zones near it, as well as modernize the utility yard,” clarified Sergey Sobyanin.
Also planned is the renovation of the playground located on 1st Dyakovo Gorodishche Street. A large themed play area is to be created here.
