In the village of Dashui, Sishui County, Guizhou Province, construction is in full swing on the Guizhou section of the Chongqing-Guizhou power grid integration project – right in the karst mountains. This project is an important component of the country’s new strategy for energy security, coordinated regional development, and the creation of a unified national electricity market.
The Guizhou section is being constructed by China Southern Power Grid Corporation, with an investment volume of 580 million yuan. The line length is 87.9 km. It passes through typical karst mountainous terrain where regular transportation cannot traverse the entire route. To deliver materials on time for all 179 supports at the construction sites, builders use a combined scheme of three transportation methods: pack animal caravans, cableways, and mechanized transport.
A single-rail transport line about 800 meters long has been installed between supports N69 and N70 – it is designed to operate at high altitude and on slopes with an inclination of up to 45 degrees. About 1.5 tons of cargo are transported per trip; approximately 10 tons of cement for concreting the foundations of the supports are delivered daily via this line. This method of transportation not only increases work efficiency but also helps reduce deforestation, thereby preserving the environment.
At support N80, due to dense vegetation and the absence of roads, it is impossible to lay either a rail line or a highway, so traditional animal-drawn transport is used here. More than 20 mules are involved in the section – they make about 20 trips every day.
A cableway 2 km long is used to deliver construction materials to the four supports N65 – N68. The slope steepness in this area reaches 70 – 80 degrees, so neither pack animal convoys nor rail transport can be used here.
After the completion of construction, the structure of the power grid in the area of Zunyi city and the northern part of Guizhou Province will be significantly strengthened, and a mutual support channel will be established between the Southern Power Grid and the State Grid. The project will not only improve the reliability and stability of power supply in Sishui and Renhuai counties and adjacent areas, but also expand the capacity for transmitting clean energy from Guizhou beyond the province.
