At the China International Fair for Trade in Services in 2026, the Hainan province booth showcased new achievements in the construction of the free trade port – including the rapid growth of the comprehensive aircraft maintenance base. While the first foreign aircraft arrived for repair at the port in 2022, more than 100 orders are expected in the current year. Increasingly, foreign airlines prefer to send their aircraft for maintenance to Hainan.
In the hangar of the comprehensive aircraft repair base of the Hainan Free Trade Port, work is simultaneously underway on 10 aircraft, 6 of which are from abroad. Among them are aircraft from Jordan, which have undergone repairs in Hainan several times before, as well as an aircraft from Hungary arriving here for the first time.
Aerospace engineer Zhu Zhiyong said that the Hungarian aircraft is currently undergoing the highest level inspection. The work covers avionics, powerplant, wing components, fuselage structure, cabin interior – practically all systems and areas of the aircraft.
It is reported that the “aviation materials supermarket” at the base stores more than 2,200 types of aviation parts and materials. During inspection and repair, any necessary part can be obtained at any time. This working model saves 2 to 3 months of repair time.
In addition, the preferential policy of the free trade port generally helps clients save 10–15% of costs. For example, when repairing aircraft arriving from abroad, no advance payment is required—this allows avoiding the long-term freezing of the client’s funds.
Regarding the supervision system, the customs of Haikou city have established a fast and efficient “green corridor” for the import of foreign aircraft, the movement of aviation materials, and the export of aircraft after repair completion.
In recent years, a comprehensive repair base with a full production chain has been established within the Hainan Free Trade Port. More than 30 foreign airlines — including those from Vietnam, Thailand, Qatar, and other countries — have become regular clients of this base.
