This summer, the fleet of the capital’s metro was supplemented with 80 cars of the “Moscow-2026” series. Modern trains continue to arrive on the Zamoskvoretskaya line — the total number of new generation trains has reached 60 units. In addition, the first section of the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line was equipped with “Moscow-2026” trains. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.
“By the order of Sergey Sobyanin, we continue to update the trains of the Moscow Metro. On the Zamoskvoretskaya line, 192 cars of the ‘Moscow-2026’ series are already in service. In addition, 96 such cars began operating on the new Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line at the beginning of September. Since 2010, the share of modern trains in the capital’s metro has increased from 13 to more than 80 percent. According to the transport development strategy, this figure will exceed 90 percent by 2030,” said Maxim Liksutov.
“Moscow-2026” is a modern modification of the 775 series trains, which also includes earlier models — “Moscow-2020” and “Moscow-2024”. The 775 series trains are already operating on six lines of the Moscow Metro: Zamoskvoretskaya, Circle, Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya, Big Circle, Troitskaya, and Rublevo-Arkhangelskaya.
Rolling stock renewal is one of the priority directions in the development of the Moscow metro. The arrival of new trains allows for increased transportation reliability, the creation of more comfortable conditions for passengers, and the gradual renewal of the metro fleet. Over the past 10 years, the Moscow metro has received more than five thousand modern cars.
Train “Moscow-2026”
For the first time, the ‘Moscow-2026’ trains went into service with passengers in December 2025. This is the most modern metro train in Russia and one of the most technologically advanced in the world. It retains all the advantages of the previous series, while the model has become more comfortable and safer. Its introduction is an important step in the renewal of the Zamoskvoretskaya line: more than 80 percent of the trains on this line now belong to the new generation.
“Moscow-2026” is a model that has received a whole range of improvements. Compared to the “Numbered” type cars, capacity has increased by 10 percent: about 1,500 passengers can travel on one train. This became possible thanks to wide through corridors. The width of the doors in the new cars has been increased by 32 percent, which significantly speeds up boarding and disembarking of people.
Metro Infrastructure
A large-scale metro rolling stock renewal program is not just about purchasing new cars. Effective operation of the trains requires infrastructure maintenance. Today, the electric depot of the capital’s metro is its technological heart.
The Moscow Metro is the most equipped in the world in terms of the quality of train maintenance. The safety and comfort of journeys directly depend on the high level of service that is provided around the clock at the depots. The operation of wheel-turning lathes increases ride smoothness, automated washing allows clean trains to be put into service, and the trenches of the new electric depots are equipped with specialized modern-generation equipment for servicing rooftop systems, including air conditioning systems. Thanks to the functioning of the electric depots, some of the shortest train intervals in the world are maintained among all metros — only 90 seconds during peak hours on in-demand lines.
