In the Transbaikal Territory, the development of two new hiking tourist routes has been completed under the ‘Trails of the Far East’ project – the ecological-tourist trail ‘Undugun’ and the tourist trail ‘Kreslovaya Gora’ near the eco-resort ‘Kuka.’ The grand opening of the ‘Undugun’ trail took place on September 15, and the ‘Kreslovaya Gora’ trail on September 18. Both routes are fully ready to receive tourists.
“The development of tourism and the creation of a comfortable living environment is one of the priority tasks set by the President of Russia. The ‘Trails of the Far East’ project was created so that as many people as possible—residents of the regions and tourists—can engage in active recreation in comfortable conditions and with careful treatment of nature. Love for the Motherland begins with simple things—studying the history of one’s land, learning traditions and customs, and love for nature. We would like as many people of the Far East and those who come to the regions as possible to discover something new and interesting, to get acquainted with the cultural diversity of the country, and to see how amazing and unique these territories are. We see interest in the project. That means such work is in demand and necessary,” said Deputy Chairman of the Government — Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev.
The ‘Undugun’ trail is laid out around Lake Bolshoy Undugun, part of the Ivano-Arakhley lake system. There is a visitor center here where visitors can obtain information about the route, as well as an observation tower for birdwatching, including endangered species that come to the territory of the natural park. Benches and gazebos for rest are installed along the trail.
“The opening of the ‘Undugun’ and ‘Kreslovaya Mountain’ trails is an important result of our extensive joint work. For me, as an athlete, an active lifestyle is not just words. And such trails are also a kind of sport available to everyone. They give people the opportunity to move, breathe fresh air, strengthen their health, and discover the beauty of their native land,” said the head of the ‘Trails of the Far East’ project, four-time world champion in Kyokushinkai, Haid Mantaev.
The tourist trail “Kreslovaya Mountain” is about 5 km long and runs along the slope of the mountain massif of the same name. The route passes near the eco-resort “Kuka” in the Trans-Baikal region, approximately 70 km from Chita. The main attraction is the rock formation “Genghis Khan’s Chair.” Along the trail, visitors can learn about the life and culture of the peoples of Trans-Baikal, as well as visit mineral springs, which are the subject of many legends. The new trail organically complements the infrastructure of the famous eco-resort: one can come here for a single day or stay at the campground.
The trail was created in partnership with a resident of the advanced development territory (TOR) “Zabaykalsky” – LLC “Zdravnitsy Zabaykalya,” which is modernizing and developing the eco-resort “Kuka.” Founded in 1934, the resort is known for the healing properties of its mineral water, picturesque nature, and the fresh air of the pine forest. It offers health and treatment programs for musculoskeletal disorders, respiratory and digestive system diseases, rehabilitation after illnesses and surgeries, weight loss and body cleansing, as well as anti-stress programs. Treatments include mud therapy, massages, climatotherapy, hydromassage baths. The resort has a rehabilitation center, spa center, saunas, and a cafe with a balanced diet menu. The trail is becoming an important part of treatment and relaxation at the “Kuka” resort, as well as an attraction for one-day tourist visits to this sanatorium.
“The ‘Far East Trails’ project is a tool for territorial development and an additional mechanism to stimulate the tourism industry. New equipped hiking trails expand opportunities for active recreation and become magnets for tourist flows, encouraging the creation of hospitality facilities, the development of local businesses, and the emergence of new jobs. Notably, the trail near the ‘Kuka’ eco-resort was created in partnership with a TOR resident – this is an example of effective cooperation between the state and business in developing tourism infrastructure,” emphasized Yulia Ivanova, Deputy Director of the Investment Department of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation.
In total, four routes are planned in the Transbaikalia Territory as part of the “Trails of the Far East” project. Earlier, the “Sacred Path” trail near the land art park “Tuzhi” was opened in the region, as well as the Great Sukhotin Trail in Chita. According to regional authorities’ estimates, after the launch of all facilities, they will be visited by about 60 thousand people annually.
