The Higher School of Production Management at IPMEiT has started training master’s degree programs created and implemented jointly with industrial partners JSC “NPO Obukhovsky Zavod” (program “High-Tech Production Management in Engineering Enterprises”) and JSC “Power Machines” (program “Supply Chain Management in High-Tech Enterprises”). The master’s training direction is “Organization and Management of Science-Intensive Productions.”
The peculiarity of corporate training programs lies in the fact that curricula and course content are developed with the participation of industry partners. Their real cases are used during the training, production practices and internships at enterprises are provided, and final qualifying works are carried out on actual production tasks.
The creation and launch of corporate production master’s programs became possible thanks to new formats of network interaction with strategic partners. This format of cooperation allows for a seamless transition of master’s students from the academic environment to real management processes in high-tech productions. Such educational programs reveal the principles of practice-oriented and project-based learning, align with the university’s educational policy, and prepare management personnel for strategically important sectors of our city’s economy, — says the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities Lyudmila Pankova.
Student teams of the economic-management and engineering fields of study at SPbPU over the past four years performed for the Procurement Directorate of “Silovye Mashiny” and successfully defended group final qualification works on optimizing technological and logistical processes at the “Electrosila” plant and the Leningrad Metal Plant. Also, for the employees of “Power Machines,” a training under the professional retraining program “Management of metal products procurement at machine-building enterprises.”
In collaboration with the Obukhov Plant, the bachelor’s program “Innovative Industrial Management” has been successfully implemented over the past two years, with part of the disciplines taught by the plant’s employees. The faculty of the Higher School of Production Management completed a special internship at the factory and the planned retraining program at NITU MISIS in the field of “Organization and management of high-tech industries.”
At the ceremonial opening of the corporate master’s programs, representatives of “Silovye Mashiny” and the Obukhov Plant were present alongside students and teachers. They emphasized the great importance of training management personnel for specific technological, production, and strategic tasks of enterprises.
For the company, this is a very interesting and strategically important experience — to develop a program together with the university that immerses students in a real production environment from the very first semester. We approached this project with care and prepared thoroughly for it, expecting high results from this symbiosis of science, education, and practice, — noted the program leader from the corporate partner, Head of General Industrial Suppliers Development at “Silovye Mashiny” Evgeniya Khmel.
For an industrial enterprise today, specialists who understand production technologies and can effectively manage complex manufacturing processes are especially important. Two groups of master’s students have started their classes. The programs attracted interest from bachelor’s graduates not only from the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade, but also from the Institute of Energy and the Physico-Mechanical Institute. Among the students are also employees of “Power Machines” and the Obukhov Plant.
