Beijing, September 15 /Xinhua/ — In August 2026, in major Chinese cities, the rate of decline in housing prices continued to slow compared to the same period last year, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Bureau of Statistics of China.
According to official data, in August, prices for new housing in four first-tier cities – Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou – decreased by 0.9% year-on-year, which is 0.2 percentage points less than the previous month.
Prices for secondary housing in the four aforementioned cities have generally fallen by 2.7% year-on-year. For comparison, in July this figure was 3.7%.
As for the cities of the second and third tiers, the rate of price decline for both new and secondary housing slowed down compared to July.
Compared to the previous month, housing prices in first-line cities increased in August. At the same time, in second- and third-line cities, there was generally a slowdown in the rate of price decline.
Among the 70 large and medium-sized cities in the country monitored by the General Office of the China Real Estate Association, in August, prices for new housing remained unchanged or increased in 21 cities compared to the previous month, which is two cities fewer than the previous month. In eight cities, prices for secondary housing remained the same or increased, unchanged from July.
