The third season of the “Jazz in Moscow Schools” project has begun in city schools, colleges, and supplementary education centers. Its participants will be students from grades 4 to 11 and college students. The children will get acquainted with famous jazz compositions, broaden their horizons, develop their musical ear, and aesthetic taste. This was reported by the press service Department of Education and Science of the city of Moscow.
“Last season, more than six thousand schoolchildren and college students participated in the project. This year, the project’s audience will expand to include fourth graders as well. During the school year, there will be 17 concerts held in schools, colleges, and additional education centers,” the agency’s press service reported.
The new season of the project opened with a concert at School No. 2129 named after Hero of the Soviet Union P.I. Romanov. The event was attended by 250 people. The Big Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Petr Vostokov, performed for the students. Classic and modern jazz compositions were played, including works by George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Leonid Utyosov, and Oleg Lundstrem. The next performance will take place on September 21 at School No. 1468.
The concert and educational formats of the project complement each other. During the meetings, schoolchildren and students listen to live jazz performances and learn about the history and development of this genre, its characteristics and traditions. The musicians talk about jazz culture and the pieces they play, and after the performance, they answer the audience’s questions.
The “Jazz in Moscow Schools” project is being implemented by the city Department of Education and Science, the Grand Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Petr Vostokov and the company “LSR Group.”
