The first meeting of students of the new program “TOP IT START” was held at NSU

The first meeting of first-year bachelor’s students studying in the top-level IT educational program “Industrial Software Engineering Technologies” (ISSE) was held at the Faculty of Information Technologies at NSU.

The event took place within the framework of the educational track “TOP IT START”: NSU became the absolute winner of the federal competition and received grant support of 200 million rubles for four years to implement the bachelor’s program “Industrial Software Engineering Technologies”.

The speaker was Alexander Vlasov, head of the educational program, associate professor at FIT NSU. He greeted the participants, talked about the features of the program, and answered questions. Selection for the program is still ongoing — additional interviews will be held, so new motivated first-year students will also be able to join the top-level program.

The TIPI program is a continuation of previous educational initiatives of FIT. As Alexander Vlasov noted, “we have been working for quite some time on creating such a program.” According to him, the new program reflects the accumulated experience in developing and implementing successful educational programs, the rapid development of technologies, and the need to provide students with the most up-to-date information so that they become modern IT engineers.

The key feature of the program is the spiral learning model.

— Every year, every course we will talk about approximately the same things, but with different levels of understanding. For example, the SQL language in the first year is studied as a declarative language, in the second year as a system integration tool, and in the third year from the point of view of the internal structure of the DBMS and query planning. This approach allows for deeper mastering of the material and integrating knowledge into the industry., — explained Alexander Vlasov.

He also emphasized that the program is aimed at training IT engineers capable of meeting challenges in the field of information technology.

The speaker also specifically addressed extracurricular life. He urged students not to limit themselves to just the educational aspect and to actively participate in university events:

— I want to point out that this is only the educational part. There is also extracurricular work — volunteering, electives, sports sections. I encourage you to participate in them. Our university is quite rich in such activities, and I would like you to become part not only of the Faculty of Information Technology but also of our entire university.

During the meeting, the students met with their mentors, including employees of IT companies represented by senior students who are already working in the field with industry partners. They will assist with adaptation and explain all the nuances of the educational process.

For all students in the program, an additional scholarship from industrial partners is provided in the first semester for successful completion of the entrance selection. Starting from the second semester, additional scholarships from IT partners are awarded for academic performance and achievements in project activities. Graduates will be able to work in leading IT companies and engage in the development of complex industrial solutions, as well as continue their studies in a master’s program in relevant IT fields.
