Beijing, September 14 /Xinhua/ — The State Council of the People’s Republic of China has formed an investigative team to look into the fire on a foreign cargo ship that occurred on September 10 in Qingdao city /Shandong Province, East China/ which resulted in fatalities. This was announced on Monday by the Ministry of Emergency Management /MEM/ of China.
A fire broke out during the maintenance of the vessel at the shipyard of Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., which is a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. As a result of the accident, 25 people died and five others were injured.
The investigative team will operate under the leadership of the Ministry of Emergency Situations with the participation of several other departments, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Informatization, and the Ministry of Public Security.
At their first plenary session, held on Monday afternoon, the group members stated the need to promptly establish the cause of the incident, identify all responsible parties, and hold the guilty strictly accountable in accordance with the law.
At the meeting, it was noted that local authorities, relevant departments, and centrally subordinate state enterprises must draw serious lessons from this tragedy.
The group members emphasized the need to conduct thorough identification and elimination of various fire risks, strengthen safety measures in key sectors, including hazardous chemicals, mining, transport, and construction, to decisively prevent major and especially major accidents.
