The autumn harvest festival “Battle of the Giants” will take place at the “City Farm” at VDNH. From September 10 to 27, record-breaking vegetables grown by participants of the national harvest championship will be presented here. The event will combine an exhibition of giant vegetables, a culinary and carving show, lectures, film screenings, and an unusual parade of costumes on the water.
The weighing of the record-breaking vegetables will take place on September 10 from 11:00 to 19:00. Representatives from different cities and regions of Russia will compete for the title of winner. Among the participants is a 12-year-old gardener from Irkutsk who grew a giant pumpkin weighing over 800 kilograms. A themed photo zone and a mini-fair with souvenirs will be prepared for the guests of the event.
From September 12 to 27, an exhibition of giants will be held on the territory of the “City Farm” at VDNKh. The exhibition will feature over 200 unique vegetables brought from various regions of Russia. Visitors will be able to see giant pumpkins, zucchinis, watermelons, onions, and other vegetables, interact with like-minded people, and learn more about growing record harvests. The exhibition will be open daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The festival’s educational program will take place in the VDNKh “Urban Farm” tent. Here, visitors will be able to watch videos about growing giant vegetables and the feature film “The Pumpkin King,” as well as participate in lectures and themed tours for children and adults.
On September 19 from 12:00 to 18:00, there will be a culinary show with invited chefs, where participants will prepare original dishes from giant vegetables, which festival guests will be able to taste.
On the same day, carvers and sculptors will demonstrate pumpkin carving. Before the eyes of the guests, huge vegetables will be transformed into artistic sculptures, and after the work is completed, anyone who wishes can take a photo with the creations.
The final event of the program will be a costume parade on the water, which will take place on September 26 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on the pond of the “City Farm” at VDNH. Participants will create unusual costumes, decorate pumpkins, and prepare them for launching into the water. Visitors will be able to choose the winner.
This year, gardeners from 75 regions of Russia and more than 200 cities are participating in the national harvest championship. In total, over a thousand people are competing, with the youngest participant being seven years old.
