Beijing, September 8 /Xinhua/ — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks on Tuesday in Beijing with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Wan Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, stated that in recent years, under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, the China-Qatar strategic partnership relations have made significant progress.
Stating that the Chinese side firmly supports Qatar in protecting its national sovereignty, independence, security, and stability, the head of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed confidence that Qatar will continue to provide China with strong support on issues concerning its fundamental interests.
He added that China is Qatar’s most reliable and long-term partner in the development process and is ready to support communication and cooperation with Qatar on international and regional affairs.
Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in turn, assured that Qatar firmly adheres to the principle of one China and opposes external interference in China’s internal affairs. According to him, Qatar wishes to strengthen communication and coordination with China in formats such as the UN, defend multilateralism, promote international peace, and common development.
Touching on energy cooperation between China and Qatar, Wang Yi emphasized that the parties should strengthen and expand cooperation both in traditional energy and in the field of new energy sources.
Noting that China is Qatar’s largest trading and energy partner, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that the Qatari side will overcome difficulties to ensure priority delivery of energy resources to China.
Wan Yi emphasized that the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region seriously undermine the security of the countries in the region and have a continuous impact on energy, shipping, and the stability of supply chains.
According to the head of the Chinese foreign affairs department, China is ready to increase communication and coordination with Qatar and other parties in the region, to support regional countries in firmly holding their future and destiny in their own hands, in the expedited restoration of peace and stability in the region, and in the creation of a just and rational new regional security architecture.
Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani stated that Qatar highly values China’s objective and fair position, supports the PRC’s initiatives to promote security in the Middle East, is ready to strengthen coordination with China to ensure the security of global energy routes, and to explore the possibility of creating a security architecture embodying the spirit of autonomy for regional countries. –0–
