Beijing, September 8 /Xinhua/ — Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday called for the development of models for sustainable urban renewal and the promotion of optimization of the structure of urban districts across the country.
Li Qiang made a corresponding statement while presiding over the 21st thematic study session of the State Council of China, dedicated to the high-quality advancement of urban renewal.
In the entire process of urban renewal, a people-centered approach must be followed, stated the Premier of the State Council of the PRC, adding that the best resources should be provided to the people, and all renewed public spaces, service facilities, and environmental resources must be prioritized to meet the vital needs of the people.

According to Li Qiang, it is necessary to coordinate the promotion of renovation and reconstruction at the levels of residential buildings, residential complexes, neighborhoods, and urban districts. He also called for accelerating the transformation and modernization of old quarters and industrial zones, actively introducing new industries and business models.
The Premier of the State Council of the PRC also emphasized the need to give top priority to shaping the distinctive character of cities while preserving urban landscapes and historical heritage.
As he indicated, it is necessary to intensify efforts to increase government investments, to coordinate and effectively use the various allocated funds.
