Moscow is developing ground urban transport. Comfortable and safe vehicles deliver passengers to rail network stations, as well as to important social, cultural, sports facilities, and other popular places. “We continue to expand the electric bus network in the capital by the order of Sergey Sobyanin. Modern environmentally friendly transport of Mosgortrans ensures comfortable trips for residents and guests of the capital. On weekdays, 44 vehicles will operate on the new electric bus routes — they will stop at 38 metro stations and MCD“, — said Maxim Liksutov.

Now electric buses operate on routes No. 26 “Metro ‘Sokol’” — “Zhivopisnaya Street”, No. 381 “Metro ‘Sokol’” — “Hospital No. 67”, No. 767 “Fedosino Street” — “Metro ‘Teply Stan’”, No. 116 “Novozavodskaya Street” — “Belorussky Railway Station”, C364 “Peschanya Square” — “Metro ‘Krasnopresnenskaya’”, and N14 “Metro ‘Molodezhnaya’” — “Metro ‘Kitay-gorod’”.

Electric buses were launched on routes C364 and No. 116 thanks to the fact that they began to be serviced at the “Presnya” site.

Innovative machines

Since 2018, innovative electric traction vehicles have been arriving in the capital. Today, the network of ground electric transport covers all districts of Moscow. Electric buses are distinguished by smooth movement, absence of noise and vibrations, thereby providing an even higher level of travel comfort for passengers. The main advantage of electric buses is their lack of negative impact on the city’s environment.

On weekdays, passengers make on average more than 1.2 million trips on them, and since 2018, their total number has exceeded 1.1 billion.

With new equipment deliveries and the development of charging infrastructure, even more electric bus routes will appear in the city. Moscow’s order for new vehicles supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.

Electric transport provides the highest level of service and meets the strictest safety standards. Low-floor electric buses are fully adapted for the comfort of passengers with limited mobility. They are equipped with a folding ramp and driver call buttons. If necessary, the driver will help passengers enter and exit the cabin.

Bicycles, strollers, or large luggage can be conveniently placed on the accumulation platform. USB slots are installed in the cabin for charging gadgets. In addition, there are media screens that display up-to-date information about upcoming stops and possible transfers.

A climate control system allows maintaining the optimal temperature inside the electric bus at any time of the year. An air curtain, which activates when the doors open, helps to preserve it inside the cabin.

In addition, there are buttons for targeted door opening. For passenger safety, the vehicle is equipped with video cameras both outside and inside. Digital validators are located near the doors, allowing passengers to pay for their ride in any convenient way.

Since 2022, improved configuration vehicles have been delivered to the capital. These electric buses feature adaptive cabin lighting that changes from a cool to a warm tone at 2:00 PM for passenger comfort. The front route indicator has been increased by 18 percent, allowing the number to be seen from a distance. The cabin is equipped with an electric heater that does not affect the environment and maintains an optimal temperature. Additionally, the new vehicles have an increased range from 40–50 to 80–90 kilometers, while the vehicle weight remains the same.

Electric bus maintenance

Today, electric buses operate at 13 Mosgortrans sites. Moscow was the first in Russia to start building modern electric bus depots. In 2022, the first electric bus depot in Russia and the largest in Europe, “Krasnaya Pakhra,” opened in TiNAO.

Vehicles were deployed on routes in the Novomoskovsky and Troitsky administrative districts.

A year later, the “Mitino” park was built in the northwest. With its opening, transport began operating on routes in 20 districts of the capital and two nearby cities in the Moscow region. At the end of 2023, the third innovative electric bus park — “Saltykovka” — started operating. It serves routes in the eastern part of the city.

In 2025, new generation KamAZ-52222 electric buses were introduced on routes. They became even more comfortable thanks to a redesigned interior layout, a 15 percent larger standing area, spaces for hand luggage, and a modified door design. The climate system became even more efficient, and light strips indicating door opening and closing appeared on the doors. The exterior of the innovative vehicles became even more aligned with current trends in global industrial design. The new generation electric buses are created taking into account the operational experience of earlier models and passenger feedback.

Since the launch, the new generation electric buses have traveled over 10 million kilometers on routes and have proven themselves well. The unique equipment is serviced at 10 Mosgortrans facilities.

According to Moscow’s eco-monitoring authorities Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, thanks to the replacement of buses with electric buses in Moscow from 2018 to 2025, about 1300 tons of pollutants and 300 thousand tons of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gases were avoided being emitted into the atmosphere. In 2025 alone, it was possible to avoid the emission of approximately 380 tons of pollutants and 110 thousand tons of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gases.
