Florentine mosaic and decorative compositions will adorn the interiors of the “Yuzhny Port” station of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya metro line. Part of the mosaic will extend onto the floor. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning Policy and Construction. Vladimir Efimov.
“We continue the active construction of the ‘Yuzhny Port’ station on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line. Currently, work is underway to relocate external engineering networks, construct temporary roads, and erect enclosing structures of the excavation. Artistic design will become an important part of the station’s architectural appearance. The central element of the escalator area will be a Florentine inlaid mosaic made of natural granite from the Karelia deposit, featuring a panorama of the commercial port on the Moskva River. Part of the image will extend onto the floor area adjacent to the wall, enhancing the sense of three-dimensionality and creating the effect of an immersive canvas. The mosaic will use granite of various shades, as well as several types of marble for finishing parts of the walls,” said Vladimir Efimov.
The main design theme will reference shipbuilding of the Soviet and Russian periods.
The platform area of the “Yuzhny Port” station will also receive expressive decoration. Decorative cylindrical vaults will be installed on the ceiling. Architectural portals and columns will be made with patterned masonry of terracotta-colored clinker bricks, creating a visual perspective.
Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department of Urban Planning Policy Vladislav Ovchinsky He specified that the vestibule of the “Yuzhny Port” station will be decorated with decorative compositions in arched niches depicting the world’s ports. They will be made of perforated metal with backlighting. This will help maintain the industrial aesthetic and connect the history of the Moscow port with global port culture. In the escalator area, a second light effect will also be created — a two-level illuminated space uniting several tiers of the station into a single visual volume.
“Today, the Moscow Metro has 309 stations — their number has increased 1.7 times over the past 15 years. The opening of the ‘Yuzhny Port’ station on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line will allow residents of the Yuzhny Port district to reach the city center faster. On a working day, more than eight million trips are made on the Moscow metro — it is the most popular urban transport in the capital, a driver of the economy, comfort, and social development. The opening of stations not only improves the quality of trips for Muscovites but also creates incentives for the development of districts,” noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry issues.
The “Yuzhny Port” station is being built as part of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line. Its construction is planned to be completed in 2030. The opening of this station will improve transport accessibility not only for the developing area on the site of the former industrial zone but also for the Yuzhny Port district and Pechatniki as a whole.
