On September 5 and 6, city volunteers will not only celebrate Moscow’s 879th birthday but also assist in organizing festivals, sports and cultural programs, visit animals in shelters, and participate in workshops at the volunteer district centers “Dobroe Mesto”.
“Volunteers go on shifts every day. On holidays and weekends, they dedicate their free time to helping others. For them, this is not a one-time event, but a daily choice for good. They inspire others by their example and show that help does not require a special occasion — it becomes an integral part of life,” said Alexander Levit, director of the ‘Mosvolonter’ resource center.
City events
On the first weekend of September, volunteers will help at 39th Moscow International Book Fair. Throughout all the days, they will provide support at the information desk, the main stage, and lecture venues, during the business program and in the press center. Volunteers will also prepare the venues, guide participants and visitors, and provide them with the necessary information.
The sports program will be particularly eventful. On September 5, volunteers will assist in Festival Park with Saturday runs at the “Good Running Place.” On the same day, they will join the second capital festival “Walking Day”. Volunteers will welcome guests, assist with navigation, support the organizers, and award medals to participants at the finish line.
Another sporting celebration — “Race 108” — will take place on September 5 in the Butovo forest park. It is timed to coincide with the 65th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space. Volunteers will register guests and participants, help them with navigation, provide support in the start and finish zones, and take part in awarding the winners.
In addition, volunteers will be involved in the XXII Physical Culture and Sports Forum “Ready for Labor and Defense”. The annual event will take place in Zelenograd on September 5 and 6 All-Russian Cup of the “NTC Amplitude” in Rugby. Volunteers will welcome guests and assist them at the competition venues.

High school students from Moscow schools will participate in the competitions. The kids will learn about standards, new exercises, team play, and a healthy lifestyle. Creative and charitable initiatives
On September 5, an interactive program will take place at the N.A. Durasov Palace on the “In the Colors of Kindness” platform as part of the festival “Choose Life”. There volunteers will help guests paint wooden toys, create postcards for City Day, and make badges in the shape of a matryoshka.
In addition, training sessions for the volunteers themselves will be held at the district volunteer centers. On Saturday, a master class on making keychains will take place at “Dobroe Mesto. YuVAO.” Volunteers will learn the basics of working with wire, master weaving techniques, and create volumetric figures. The finished products will be donated to a social care institution. On the same day, a glass bottle painting session will be held at “Dobroe Mesto. SZAO” for the beneficiaries of the “Soglasie” family center.
Another area of volunteer activity will be helping homeless animals. On September 5, volunteers will go for a walk with the shelter wards. “Husky Help”, “Biozone” and the center “Wet Nose”. On September 6, they will visit the shelter’s pets “Domashniy, Balashikha”.
You can help without participating in the volunteer shift.
