Brussels, April 13 /Sina/ — The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated on Monday that as long as Lebanon remains under fire of attacks, there will be no stability in the Middle East. She added that restoring the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz has “primary importance.”

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, considering the absence of an agreement following the results of the peace talks between the USA and Iran held in Islamabad, regional intermediaries are urgently trying to organize a second round of negotiations in the coming days to prevent the breakdown of the two-week ceasefire regime agreed upon by the parties. Meanwhile, on Monday Israel expanded the scale of its covert offensive operation in Lebanon, which occurred a day before Israeli and Lebanese officials were scheduled to begin direct talks in Washington.

Speaking after the meeting of the College of Commissioners, U. von der Leyen expressed the European Union’s concern that the ongoing strikes on Lebanon could disrupt the entire process, and called on all parties to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and ensure a complete cessation of hostilities.

She also noted that the crisis in the Middle East had a huge negative impact on the EU economy. According to U. von der Leyen, since the beginning of the conflict, the Eurozone’s imports of mineral energy resources have increased by more than 22 billion euros (about 25.72 billion US dollars). –0–
