Moscow Young People’s Theatre (MYPT) Moscow Palace of Pioneers is celebrating its 90th anniversary. Sergey Sobyanin spoke about its history on his channel in in the messenger “Max”.
“The theater studio is one of the first clubs of the Palace of Pioneers. It was founded by the Soviet actress, director, and teacher Nina Sukhotskaya. Among the famous alumni of the studio are Roland Bykov, Igor Kvasha, Natalia Gundareva, Yuri Bogatyrev. Today, more than 100 performances are shown annually at TYuM,” wrote the Mayor of Moscow.

The theater’s history began in 1936 at the Moscow City House of Pioneers and Octobrists on Stopani Lane (now Ogorodnaya Sloboda Lane). During the Great Patriotic War, young performers performed in hospitals and at the front. For this, they were awarded the medals “For the Defense of Moscow.”
In 1962, the theater studio moved to a new building of the Moscow City Palace of Pioneers on Leninsky (now Vorobyovy) Hills. The group gained its own professional stage, rooms for decorations, and dressing rooms. Four years later, the studio received its current name.
Currently, TYUM includes a puppet theater, the vocal theater “Solovushka,” an educational theater, and a performing arts workshop.
“For the anniversary, TYUM has prepared premiere performances and a series of festive events for the entire season. Additionally, each teacher will hold an authorial creative evening. Everyone who wishes will be able to attend the events,” added Sergey Sobyanin.
This year, every third graduate of the Young Muscovites Theater chose a creative specialty and enrolled in one of the specialized universities. Among them are the Moscow Art Theatre School-Studio, the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts — GITIS, and the Moscow Institute of Theatre Arts named after People’s Artist of the USSR I.D. Kobzon.
