A fair entirely devoted to honey has opened on Orekhovy Boulevard (property 24). The initiative to create such a venue came from the beekeepers themselves—participants of Moscow fairs from various parts of the country who regularly communicate and exchange experiences. Thanks to them, the honey fair features 14 beekeepers from nine regions: Kirov, Tambov, Volgograd, Kemerovo, Rostov, and Voronezh regions, the Republic of Adygea, Tatarstan, and Bashkortostan. This format allows even the most discerning buyer to select the product personally.
The wide variety of honey offered by participants in this fair is partly due to nomadic beekeeping. The apiaries do not stay in one place: from early spring, the hives are transported from one nectar source to another. Depending on the region and flowering periods, bees can collect nectar from black maple, white acacia, sainfoin, sweet clover, linden, and other plants. Thus, beekeepers have the opportunity to produce several varieties over the season.
Honey from different regions tastes different
The taste and aroma of honey depend on the plants from which bees collect nectar. For example, beekeepers bring chestnut honey with a characteristic bitterness from Adygea, while in the Kirov region, they produce linden and fireweed honey. In the central part of the country, multifloral honey is common: bees collect nectar from meadow and field plants. In the Voronezh region this year, according to hereditary beekeeper Oksana Eliseeva, the linden honey turned out particularly rich. Black maple and buckwheat honey are also harvested here.
“My parents, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers were engaged in beekeeping; I am already the fifth generation in the family. For me, the greatest advantage of Moscow fairs is communicating with customers: people can purchase honey without intermediaries, directly from the beekeeper,” noted Oksana Eliseeva.
In addition to traditional honey in jars, the fair also features other beekeeping products. On Orekhovy Boulevard, you can find honeycomb and royal jelly — a creamy, milky-white substance produced by nurse bees to feed larvae and the queen bee. It is presented as a honey mixture and contains proteins, amino acids, and other biologically active substances.
Products for the capital’s markets are brought in from more than 40 regions of Russia. Specialists check them before they are placed on the shelves. state veterinary service in the city of Moscow.
