An outdoor photo exhibition will be opened at Trubnaya Square, organized by the Moscow Directorate of Mass Events with the support of the capital city Department of Culture. It is timed to coincide with the centenary of the publication of the first edition of the legendary book “Moscow and Muscovites” by Vladimir Gilyarovsky.
Visitors will see photographs, engravings, and postcards depicting views of Moscow, as well as materials from Vladimir Gilyarovsky’s archive, which have recently been added to the Museum of Moscow’s collection. The displays will feature invitations, posters, tickets, and restaurant lunch menus with annotations by the writer. The structure of the exhibition is defined by the composition of the book “Moscow and Muscovites” — the sections of the exhibition correspond to the chapters-essays. They tell about the Sukharev Market and Theatre Square, about Khitrovka and Lubyanka, about Moscow baths, taverns, and much more. Each section includes a quote from Vladimir Gilyarovsky, who keenly noticed interesting details of city life.
The photo exhibition will be open until September 30. It is curated by the Museum of Moscow. Admission is free.
