Portal “Moscow Youth” developed a navigator “Freshman Guide” for new students. It contains useful materials with information about student organizations and opportunities for self-realization, as well as practical advice on studying and organizing leisure time in the capital. Ambassadors of the project and participants of the Moscow International Friendship Club also help with adapting to the city and educational institution.
“ Our guide is not just a collection of tips, but a true navigator through student life in Moscow. We have gathered everything needed for a confident start — from studies and leisure to opportunities for self-realization and finding like-minded people. I am confident that with such support, every freshman will not only be able to adapt but also immediately immerse themselves in the active life of the capital,” noted Margarita Savinkina, head of the “Youth of Moscow” project.
The guide includes six sections: “First Steps,” “Useful Tips,” “Youth Movement,” “Faster,” “Rest, Sports and Entertainment,” and “Psychological Assistance.”
A memo on obtaining a student ID, dormitories, registering a Moscow social card, and the curriculum is posted in the block “First Steps”. Information about youth resources, the opportunities of the Pushkin Card, scholarships, and the youth bank card can be found in the section “Useful useful things”.
In the block “Youth Movement” They will talk about what student self-government is, how it allows active participation in university life, and what opportunities it provides for development and self-realization. Here you can also find detailed information about federal youth movements, volunteering, and the “Youth of Moscow” project. Its ambassador, Elena Perova, especially appreciated this section of the guide. A second-year student of the State University of Management, she always advises newcomers to start small: attend an open meeting of any student club to feel the atmosphere and immediately see their future friends.
“When I just enrolled, what I lacked was a community of like-minded people. Now I myself conduct university tours for first-year students and always say: drop by the volunteer center or a sports training session, there you will find not just contacts but a real team,” shared Elena Perova.
Information about Moscow transportation can be found in the section “That’s faster”. For students, we have compiled relevant links to materials with a metro map and schedule, instructions for booking bicycles and scooters, as well as routes Moscow Central Diameters, Moscow Central Circle and other ground transportation.
A member of the Moscow International Friendship Club and a third-year student at the National University of Science and Technology MISIS, Tamim Rezvani, noted that the section about transport became a real help for him in the first weeks of study. The young man admitted that without this section, it would have been much more difficult for him to understand the metropolitan transport system. Now he himself plans routes for foreign students and always advises newcomers to refer to the “Freshman Guide.”
In the section “Relaxation, Sports, and Entertainment” An interactive map with the main city leisure venues has been posted. Students can find important sites and attractions of the capital on it: VDNH, Gorky Park, Yakimanskaya Embankment, and other places. For fans of an active lifestyle, there is a sports guide with free venues. In addition, three multi-format spaces “Youth of Moscow” are operating in the capital. Here, students will find contacts and addresses of organizations operating both online and offline, as well as useful materials about trainings, workshops, and programs aimed at strengthening emotional well-being and relieving stress.
A special guidebook for freshmen has been developed and compiled by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the project “Youth of Moscow” urban Committee on Public Relations and Youth Policy with the support of the capital’s Department of Transport and Road Transport Infrastructure Development and Department of Culture.
