In August, a lamb was born at the “City Farm” at VDNH — the son of the sheep Henrietta and the ram Yulik. The newborn came into the world healthy and already stands confidently on its feet. It has an unusual fawn color with bright reddish spots. From the first moments, the parents surrounded the baby with care and attention.
Zoologists of the “City Farm” are observing the newborn and note that it is feeding on mother’s milk and is quite active. Specialists do not disturb the family so that all its members gradually get used to the changes.
Wensleydale lambs are born very tiny — they are among the smallest sheep in the world. They are called dwarfs among their kind: adults reach no more than half a meter at the withers. Despite their size, they are hardy, tolerate severe frosts well, and can even roam in snowy weather.
Visitors to the “City Farm” will see the lamb once it has gained a bit of strength. Meanwhile, the zoologists ask everyone to keep quiet and not disturb the new family.
Together with the Wessan sheep breed, more than 200 animals live on the “City Farm” — from chickens and rabbits to deer and cattle. Entrance is by tickets purchased at the box office or online website.
