At the solemn gathering of the SPbPU team on Knowledge Day, the winners and prize-winners of the contest “Best Teacher Through the Eyes of Students” were awarded. The heroes of the day were presented not only with diplomas but also with the university’s highest award — the badge of distinction “For Merit.”
This year the competition was held for the sixth time. It is a joint initiative of the Center for Educational Quality and the Student Trade Union of SPbPU. It was conducted in six categories: “Best of the Best,” “Master of Words,” “Best Practitioner,” “Best in Communication with Students,” “Innovator,” and “Keeper of Polytech Traditions.” In the voting on on the web platform of the Trade Union Organization of Students of SPbPU Students of the 3rd to 5th years of bachelor’s and specialist programs, as well as master’s students, took part. Over 5,500 votes were cast for the teachers, with the most active voters being the students of IKNK.
“The ‘Best Teacher Through Students’ Eyes’ contest is sincere feedback and gratitude from those for whom we work, — says the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities of SPbPU, Lyudmila Pankova. — The evaluation criteria clearly demonstrate which qualities students value in teachers today. It is the highest professionalism, respect for students’ work, and a willingness to move forward by introducing new formats. And this is very important to us. After all, it is precisely the work, charisma, and dedication of teachers to their craft that make Polytechnic a place you want to return to every day.”
The winners and prize-winners of the competition were 18 teachers from eight institutes: GI, IBSiB, IKNK, IPMEiT, ISI, IFiM, IFKSiT, IE. All of them will receive cash prizes.
In the category “Best of the Best,” the winners were Sergey Mikhailovich Ustinov (Institute of Computer Science and Cybersecurity), Vadim Andreevich Kozhevnikov (Institute of Physics and Mathematics) and Maksim Aleksandrovich Basov (Institute of Physical Culture, Sports, and Tourism).
“Every year, taking accumulated experience into account, the competition conditions are improved, — noted Elena Zima, the director of the Center for Education Quality. — One of the most important outcomes of the competition is the active involvement of the Trade Union Organization of SPbPU students in its conduct. This year, the Trade Union not only specially developed a web platform for voting but also practically took on the task of informing the students entirely. Thanks to this cooperation, we managed to establish close interaction with student self-government on other issues related to quality assurance in the university.
