The A.S. Pushkin State Museum has prepared an exhibition of masterpieces of traditional Chinese calligraphy, the Gogol House will tell about the artist Leonid Milovanov, and the State Darwin Museum will introduce two evolutionary scientists.

“Evolutionary Dynasty” at the State Darwin Museum

At the State Darwin Museum will open exhibition, dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the birth of Alexey Severtsov and the 90th anniversary of the birth of his grandson and namesake Alexey Severtsov — prominent members of the dynasty of evolutionary biologists.
Alexey Nikolaevich Severtsov was able to explain how the first ancient vertebrates appeared on the planet, and also identified four main pathways for the development of their organisms. Additionally, he proved that evolutionary changes in species begin already at the embryonic development stage. His grandson also studied evolutionary ecology, the theory of natural selection, and much more, was a Doctor of Biological Sciences and the author of the textbook “The Theory of Evolution.”
At the exhibition, visitors will see documentary photographs and images from the family archive, memorial items, as well as exhibits from the Darwin Museum’s collections, revealing the scientific and educational activities of the honorees.
“Escape from loneliness” at the State Darwin Museum

Another important date will be celebrated at the Darwin Museum — the 90th anniversary of the birth of Yevgeny Panov, an ethologist, ornithologist, and herpetologist, author of numerous publications and 25 scientific and popular science books. One of them, “Escape from Loneliness,” became a bestseller. His works have also been translated into foreign languages.
A special section will introduce the biography and scientific legacy of the scientist exhibitions. Among the exhibits are his field sketches and photographs from expeditions.
In addition, visitors will see unique items from the museum’s collections: nests of social insects, taxidermy of birds and mammals, and ethnographic artifacts.
Exhibition of new works by Alexander Shilov at the Alexander Shilov Gallery

Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation, People’s Artist of the USSR Alexander Shilov will traditionally present new works that he has created over the past months. Visitors to the gallery will see portraits of participants in the special military operation, still lifes, and much more. Entrance to the exhibition is by ticket to the gallery.
“The Culture of Creation. Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art” at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art

This year marks the 90th anniversary of Yuriy Luzhkov’s birth. The Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA), together with the Yuriy Luzhkov Foundation, will present an exhibition dedicated to this date. The exhibition will highlight his contribution to the development of cultural initiatives and support of Moscow’s artistic institutions in the 1990s and 2000s. Visitors will see a video from the MMOMA opening ceremony, in which Yuriy Luzhkov and Zurab Tsereteli cut the ribbon at the entrance to house 25 on Petrovka Street. The exhibition will include models of Zurab Tsereteli’s sculptures “Luzhkov-Athlete” and “Luzhkov-Janitor.”

“Moscow. History in Landscape” at the Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of the Russian Abroad

At the Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of the Russian Diaspora, paintings by the artist Nikolai Mochalsky will be exhibited, in which he captured Moscow landscapes: old estates and alleys, boulevards, and memorable places associated with the names of outstanding figures of Russian culture.
Nikolay Mochalsky was born in 1972 in Moscow. The artist is a participant in Russian and international exhibitions, a graduate of the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov.

“From Gogol Alley to Roman Grove” at the A.S. Pushkin State Museum

The new exhibition of the A.S. Pushkin State Museum is timed to the 235th anniversary of the birth of the writer, critic, and public figure Sergey Aksakov, and the 185th anniversary of the birth of entrepreneur and patron Savva Mamontov. They are united by the fact that both were owners of the Abramtsevo estate at different times.
Among the exhibits are graphic and painted portraits, landscape studies, costume and set design sketches, and decorative and applied art objects by Vasily Polenov, Viktor Vasnetsov, Ilya Repin, and other masters.

“Brush and Heart: Gifts of Chinese Masters” at the A.S. Pushkin State Museum

At another new exhibition, the State Museum of A.S. Pushkin will showcase 10 masterpieces of traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting from the collection of Lyubov Dukhanina, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education and Science of the State Duma. She received them as a gift from Chinese artists in 2019 during the events of the Russia-China cross-year.
Visitors will become acquainted with traditional motifs of Chinese culture, learn what the presented works mean and how they are connected to philosophical teachings. A special place in the exhibition will be given to symbolic images of the bear and the dragon, national symbols of Russian and Chinese cultures, complemented by autographs of masters and editions of Alexander Pushkin’s works translated into Chinese.

Exhibition of Leonid Milovanov’s Works at the Gogol House

Exhibition The works of artist Leonid Milovanov will be timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of his birth. A special place in his work was occupied by the Russian village – the heroes of the canvases were often simple rural residents. The artist was also interested in the theme of the clergy – since 2016 he has been creating corresponding works. In addition to all this, his latest album “Images of Russia” will be shown at the exhibition.
Leonid Milovanov was born in Moscow in 1966, and graduated from the art and graphics faculty of the Moscow State Pedagogical University named after V.I. Lenin. His works are in state museum collections and private collections both in Russia and abroad.
“Mayakovsky Reads” at the Mayakovsky Family Apartment

Fans of the poet’s work are awaited at the venue of the V.V. Mayakovsky State Museum “Apartment in Studenetsky Lane.” Here, editions belonging to the poet will be presented, books from the Brikov library, books signed and gifted to Mayakovsky, as well as editions from the family archive.

“Misha Nikatin. Father’s Regime” at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art

At Misha Nikatin’s solo exhibition “Father’s Mode,” a new series of paintings dedicated to the experience of modern fatherhood will be presented. “Rereading Darwin” at the State Darwin Museum

The State Darwin Museum is preparing another exhibition—about the scientific discoveries of the 19th century. Visitors will see entomological collections, mollusk shells, a barometer, and a microscope—all gathered during research trips and used in laboratories. A separate section will be devoted to the correspondence of the museum’s founder Alexander Kots with the botanist and geneticist Nora Barlow, granddaughter of Charles Darwin. In 1958, she published the complete version of her great-grandfather’s memoirs.
In addition, visitors to the museum will be able to get acquainted with the work of Viktor Evstafyev, who worked here in the 1940s–1960s, through his pastel drawings from the series “The Life Story of Charles Darwin.”

“N.Sh.” at the A.N. Scriabin Museum

For the 145th anniversary of Nikolai Shperling’s birth, the A.N. Scriabin Museum has prepared an exhibition titled “N.Sh.” The first section is dedicated to the image of the artist: guests will see illustrations for children’s fairy tales, photographs of Shperling, as well as of his father and younger sister.
The second section consists of authentic graphic works by the artist that have not been previously exhibited. Visitors will be presented with drawings from the collection of the famous Russian and Soviet architect and restorer Nikolai Vinogradov, which are held in a private collection.

“Shop I. Datsiaro — J. Daziaro. Moscow — Saint Petersburg” in the Borodino Battle Panorama Museum

Giuseppe Daziaro (1806–1865) was born in Italy and moved to Russia in the 1820s, where he established his own business. The entrepreneur’s partners in publishing activities were the Lemercier printing house in Paris and K. Polya’s workshop in St. Petersburg. Giuseppe (Iosif Khristoforovich) Daziaro opened stores in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Paris, and Warsaw. According to the price lists, the company traded in prints, lithographs, daguerreotypes, and photographs, as well as “artistic, drawing, and drafting supplies.”
The core of the exhibition at the Borodino Battle Panorama Museum consists of lithographs published by Daciaro in the 1840s-1850s. Views of Moscow and St. Petersburg, scenes of folk life, portraits of famous statesmen — all these subjects together form a kind of visual encyclopedia of the Nicholas era. Shops of the Giuseppe company are mentioned in the works of Russian writers Ivan Lazhechnikov, Lev Tolstoy, and Alexander Kuprin.

“Nalbandyan. In the plural” at the Nalbandyan Museum-Workshop

The Nalbandyan Museum-Workshop and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art will present an exhibition project dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the artist’s birth.
The collection of the museum-workshop will feature more than 1500 works by Dmitry Nalbandyan: landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and genre paintings created at various stages of his creative journey. It also includes materials from the family archive, photographs, books, furniture items, and decorative and applied arts.
