At the “Protected Embassy” pavilion of the “Zaryadye” park, the annual financial literacy marathon has concluded. Over 12 days, more than 32 thousand people of various ages participated — from the youngest Muscovites to representatives of the older generation. Visitors could create their own program by choosing thematic lectures, master classes, and practical sessions on the main areas of financial literacy. This was reported by Elena Zyabbarova, Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the city’s Department of Finance.
“The Financial Literacy Marathon once again brought together thousands of Muscovites and guests of our city, confirming the high interest in personal finance management issues. We conducted over 350 educational events with the participation of more than 100 leading experts on the most relevant topics—from family budget management rules to insurance and investments. Using modern multimedia formats, participants analyzed real-life situations, learned to plan income and expenses, safely use digital services, and protect their personal data. Everyone was able to acquire the necessary knowledge to competently manage personal funds and feel more confident in the world of finance,” said Elena Zyabbarova.
For the adult audience, lectures, workshops, and practical sessions were held on personal and family budget management, the use of investment instruments, tax deduction processing, and protection against fraudulent schemes. In practical sessions, experts analyzed real situations and explained what to pay attention to when opening deposits and arranging loans, as well as how to choose investment products.
One of the most popular activities was the situational game “Fraudster in the Palm: Play and Recognize!”. Participants learned to identify fraudulent schemes and counteract them in real-life situations. At the workshop organized by the Federal Tax Service, experts explained which deductions various categories of citizens are entitled to and what mistakes are most commonly made when filling out documents. At the lecture “Banks or Marketplaces: What the Next Generation Financial Ecosystems Will Look Like,” participants discussed how the development of digital platforms is changing the ways money is stored, accumulated, and used.
A separate program was prepared for children and teenagers. The youngest participants learned the basics of financial literacy through play: they found out what money is, what elements a coin consists of, and what security features banknotes have. The acquired knowledge was reinforced in the “Protected Embassy” laboratories. For example, at the “Banknotes under the Microscope” master class, children looked for hidden marks and learned to distinguish genuine money from counterfeit. In the interactive lesson “Beware of Financial Scammers,” the kids got acquainted with different types of online scams, learned what dropper schemes are, and studied rules for safe behavior on the internet. At the session “Secrets of the Piggy Bank: How to Befriend Money,” children were taught how to manage pocket money, set financial goals, and protect savings and personal data from fraudsters.
Activities dedicated to digital technologies were prepared for teenagers. For example, at a master class on the safe use of artificial intelligence, together with an expert, the participants examined why one should not blindly trust neural networks, how to recognize unreliable information, and why personal data should not be shared with smart assistants.
In addition, in the interactive zone, visitors could try out the role of a bank manager or insurance agent and undergo financial neurotesting. Thematic tests and quizzes on tablets and touchscreens were also prepared for children.
The marathon was organized by the city The Department of Finance within the framework of the project “Summer in Moscow”.
