Hohhot, September 1 /Xinhua/ — Recently, the Russian Film Festival 2026 was held for the first time in the city of Hohhot, autonomous region of Inner Mongolia /Northern China/, simultaneously taking place in four other cities in China: Beijing, Shanghai, Harbin, and Heihe.
In local cinemas of Hohhot, 10 Russian films were shown for free. The program includes military-historical dramas, family movies, fantasy adventures, and animation.
According to Sun Wuguan, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Inner Mongolia Party Committee, since the first Russian Film Festival was held in 2013, the range of Russian film screenings in China has been steadily expanding. This year, the event has taken on special significance: it is timed to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia partnership and strategic cooperation relations, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the PRC and the Russian Federation.
“We hope that the Chinese and Russian sides will take advantage of this opportunity to develop further cooperation in areas such as film screenings, exchange of creative experience, and interaction of specialists,” said Song Wuguan.
Lu Liang, deputy director of the China Film Archive, noted that Russian filmmakers throughout the entire history of cinema — from the innovative explorations of the early montage school to the grand war epics of the Soviet period and modern forms of artistic expression — have been able to capture the spirit of the times and convey genuine feelings through the camera lens.
He emphasized that cooperation between China and Russia in the field of cinema and television has been actively developing in recent years, and expressed hope that outstanding works of both countries will appear increasingly on each other’s screens.
Sofya Egorova, Head of the Department for International Screenings at ROSKINO, read at the festival opening ceremony a welcoming address from the organization’s General Director, Elina Tutova.

She is pleased with the opportunity to present the brightest Russian premieres to a wide audience and is confident that the Russian film festival is another significant step in the development of cultural dialogue between the two countries.
The organizers of the current film festival were the State Film Administration of the PRC and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
