Moscow, April 12 /Xinhua/ — The space industry in Russia today feels confident, despite the accumulated problems, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday at a meeting with the head of the Russian space corporation “Roscosmos,” Dmitry Bakanov, on the eve of Cosmonautics Day in Russia.

“This year we are also celebrating the 65th anniversary of Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin’s flight. Last year was generally positive for the industry — 17 launches, 97 spacecraft were launched. And consolidated revenue grew by 10 percent — over 500 billion rubles,” noted the Russian president.

D. Bakanov reported that “Roscosmos” and private companies have managed to deploy a new low-earth orbit broadband communications group, while Russia’s orbital grouping has reached a figure of 364 spacecraft.

D. Bakanov also presented to V. Putin the project “New Start”, within which a private investor will invest 600 billion rubles over 8 years in the conversion of the “Topol” missile and the creation of a returnable carrier rocket. The first launch from the Vostochny cosmodrome is planned for the first quarter of 2027. –0–
