Over the past weekend, attacks across Ukraine killed around 60 civilians and injured more than 240 people. This was reported by the UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric at a briefing for journalists in New York on Monday, citing data from UN humanitarian staff on the ground and Ukrainian authorities.
Kyiv Oblast, including the country’s capital, was hit the hardest. A drone strike on an ammunition depot caused a powerful explosion, resulting in the deaths of 38 people, including residents of a nursing home. Another 52 people were injured in this incident, many of them children. About 200 houses were destroyed or damaged.
At the front line in the Kherson region, four people died over the weekend, and another 60 were injured. Casualties among the civilian population were also recorded in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Odessa, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Dujaric reiterated the call of the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine, Matthias Schmale, urging all parties to take measures to protect the civilian population.
According to the press secretary, UN humanitarian agency staff continue to provide aid to those affected. In the Kyiv region, the World Health Organization delivered medical supplies to hospitals treating the wounded. The Ukrainian Red Cross Society and several local NGOs, with the support of UN agencies, provide people with psychosocial and psychological assistance, as well as drinking water and financial support.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs facilitated the dispatch of a humanitarian convoy to front-line Sviatohirsk in Donetsk Oblast. Approximately 700 residents remaining in this area were delivered medicines, hygiene kits, and other essential items.
