Beijing, August 31 /Xinhua/ — China has announced measures to expand and modernize consumer goods consumption, setting a goal to increase the total retail sales of consumer goods to approximately 60 trillion yuan (about 8.85 trillion US dollars) by 2030, according to guidelines for implementing these measures published on Monday.

The guideline, jointly issued by seven government departments including the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China, contains a call for the development of markets worth 10 trillion yuan in areas such as green and smart consumption and healthcare by 2030.

Retail sales of goods worth a trillion yuan, including automobiles, household appliances, communication equipment, textiles, and clothing, are also expected to continue growing, and these markets will remain among the largest in the world.

This guide identifies four main tasks for stimulating the consumption of goods, namely – stimulating the consumption of durable goods, improving the quality of consumption of everyday demand goods, supporting the consumption of specialized goods, and stimulating demand for modernized goods.

In addition, the document lists measures including the expansion of automobile consumption throughout the production chain, promotion of solutions for the “smart home,” support for consumption of goods for the elderly and children, as well as increasing the consumption of environmentally friendly, intelligent, and health-beneficial products.
