On September 1, Polytech welcomes its new students. At 10:00 on all the university’s social media, SPbPU Rector Andrey Rudskoy will congratulate freshmen on Knowledge Day. Then the students will set off on an exciting journey around the campus: 13 thematic zones, over 100 stations, and a sea of gifts await them.
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., freshmen, under the guidance of adaptors, will learn about the opportunities available to them at the university, the largest student projects and areas of work, and will be able to immediately choose a sports section and creative association they like.
In each zone, you will need to earn polycoins in order to receive gifts for them at the end of the journey. The more “currency” you have, the more valuable the prizes.
These are the zones that the organizers have prepared for freshmen this year.
First in science
Here, first-year students will see machines, mechanisms, robots, and other exclusive polytechnic inventions, and get acquainted with technical student teams and their activities.
The first in volunteering
Dobro.Center of SPbPU and partners of the volunteer ecosystem will talk about their work, show how to participate in volunteer actions, conduct quizzes, games, training sessions, and a mini-course on first aid.
The first in creativity
“Singers and musicians, acrobats and jesters” — you can meet all kinds of people at this venue! Two choirs, two theaters, vocal and dance studios, an orchestra, KVN — creative people at Polytech have many avenues to channel their talents.
The first in labor
25 student squads will show newcomers their world, filled not only with interesting work but also with romance. Sparkling dances, songs played on the guitar, stylish construction squad jackets, and travel routes across the whole country — how can one resist and not sign up for a squad right away?
First in support
The Polytechnic student union has been surrounding its members with care and attention for over 60 years, opening paths for professional growth and a wealth of development opportunities. First-year students can expect sports competitions, engaging interactive activities, and contests.
The first in sports
At the Polytechnic Stadium, the guys will get acquainted with university teams from various fields, their victories and achievements, and will also try their hand at various sports.
First in memory
The Polytechnic Tower invites time travel. And there will be journeys: from the late Middle Ages to the 1940s of the last century. Knights in armor, archery, weapons and technology of the Great Patriotic War, historical dances — reenactment enthusiasts will find a lot of interesting things here.
First in communities
Each student association has prepared a unique platform that will help you learn more about their work, try yourself as an activist, and choose a hobby to your liking.
The first in projects
You can get acquainted with innovative student projects at the Polytech Tower. Here, you will be told how to design a robot and start a technological startup, how to find a team of like-minded people and bring bold ideas to life together. And the team “Omnivores” will introduce everyone to their combat robot Honey Badger — the winner of the international “Robot Battle” championship.
First in the career
You can decide on your future profession starting from the very first year. The Center for New Opportunities and the Career Development Department of SPbPU will help you find out which competencies need to be strengthened and how to start the path to your dream job.
Leaders in career guidance
This place is for those who already miss school. Do you want to help high school students decide on their future profession and talk about our university at your school? Here you will learn how to do it.
The first in tourism
Those who cannot imagine life without backpacking trips, nights in a tent, and sitting around a campfire — here you will meet like-minded people and be able to join the community of travelers.
First in safety
Security issues are more important today than ever. To study calmly and engage in your favorite activities, you need to feel protected. Employees of the Civil Security Department of SPbPU will explain the rules of conduct in emergencies and how to act in case of a threat.
In addition, the Polytech partners will operate their own sites on campus, and there will be a separate bonus — the Public Relations Office location, where you can learn about the university’s social media channels, how to join their subscriber ranks, and what gifts are offered for that.
After all, during the day on the Polytech campus, canteens and cafes will be open, as well as purifiers with drinking water.
