The Moscow Metro, together with the Moscow State Technological University (MSTU) “STANKIN,” has launched a new themed train dedicated to the nearly century-long history of the university. The train “STANKIN — Science, Technology, Future” will run on the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya line for six months. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.
“Moscow Metro constantly serves as a platform for cooperation with educational institutions. By the order of Sergey Sobyanin, we support projects that help youth develop. The new themed train is dedicated to MSTU ‘STANKIN’. This is already the 10th train we have launched since the beginning of 2026. The university itself has been training specialists in engineering for almost a century. The new train will tell Muscovites and the city’s guests about the university’s history and our country’s technological leadership,” said Maxim Liksutov.
The train’s design reflects the university’s key achievements, its scientific directions, engineering developments, and the opportunities available to students. Each carriage showcases a specific period in the university’s nearly century-long history.
The design used archival photographs, documents, and images of the university’s iconic inventions. For example, passengers will be able to see the TS-50 lathe, developed by the university in 1941 and actively used during the Great Patriotic War for the needs of the front-line industry.
“It is symbolic that we are launching this train on the eve of the new academic year. This year, STANKIN received a record number of applications from prospective students. We see how rapidly young people’s interest in engineering specialties and the machine-building industry as a whole is growing. The train is a format for interactive immersion into the world of advanced Russian science. It will help attract public attention to a strategically important industry and vividly demonstrate to millions of passengers the competitiveness of our developments. But most importantly, we expect to engage a new generation in machine building,” said Boris Padalkin, rector of Moscow State Technological University STANKIN.
One of the cars shows what the university is currently engaged in. The exhibition features developments in the field of robotics, modern CNC machines, milling machines, manipulators, and other technologies. Passengers will also be able to see modern laboratories and industrial enterprises where such equipment is produced.
The head of the main competence center for machine tool building at MSTU ‘STANKIN,’ Yuri Koval, noted that technological sovereignty begins with people — specialists who know how to create modern equipment, implement digital solutions, and respond to real production demands. Therefore, it is especially important that education is closely linked with practice, and that young workers use current technologies and participate in significant industry projects already during their studies.
In addition, passengers and prospective students on the train will be able to learn about student centers, design bureaus and engineering classes, opportunities and prospects — internships at leading industry enterprises and the work of career centers.
A separate place in the train is dedicated to student life. Sports and creative clubs, volunteering, and media projects — during extracurricular time, everyone can find an activity they enjoy and a place to express their talents.
