As part of the celebration of Moscow City Day on September 5 and 6, the theaters under the jurisdiction of the capital Department of Culture, will present an extensive program. Guests can look forward to performances, concerts, tours, creative meetings, master classes, and an open rehearsal. In addition, theater artists will perform in Izmailovsky Park, as well as in the Kolomenskoye and Tsaritsyno museum-reserves.

Performances
Moscow Drama Theatre named after A.S. Pushkin invites to the performance “Kharms and Podkharms” (branch, September 6 at 7:00 PM, 12+). This is an outdoor carnival performance that will offer a look at the characters of classic Russian literature through the lens of anecdotes. The actors involved in the play are Sergey Kudryashov, Yan Sibryaev, Alexey Voropanov, Alexander Ivanov, Maxim Bogatyrev, Ivan Leshin, Vasily Bobrov, Artyom Lyashenko. Director — Igor Teplov. Designer — Anastasia Alexandrova. Composer — Artyom Lyashenko.
Moscow theater “Sovremennik” invites you to a literary performance ‘Yours entirely, A.Ch.’ (venue “Different Stage”, September 6 at 7:00 PM, 12+). It is created based on letters of Anton Chekhov and his contemporaries, using documentary sources about Oleg Efremov’s work on the play “The Seagull” in 1970. Live musical accompaniment enhances the atmosphere and becomes an important part of the performance.
At the Moscow Theater on Taganka a performance will take place “Viy” (main stage, September 5 at 19:00, 16+). This is a rock drama where the text of Nikolai Gogol’s novella of the same name intertwines with music, poetry, and contemporary dramaturgy. The performance features songs by Veni D’rkin — a singer-songwriter who was called the Vladimir Vysotsky of the 1990s.
Productions for children
Moscow Puppet Theater invites to the performance “The Famous Moydodyr” (main stage, September 5 at 11:00, 3+). It is based on the fairy tale by Korney Chukovsky, in which one day in the life of a sloppy little boy turns into an exciting and instructive adventure.
At the “Grandpa Durov’s Corner” theater a performance will take place “Visiting Grandpa Durov” (main stage, September 5 at 14:00, 0+). The famous animal trainer will open the door to the magical world of the only theater in the world where animals and birds perform for the audience.
Teresa Durova Theater is waiting for little audience members at the performance “TestO” (children’s lounge, September 5 at 11:00 and 13:00, September 6 at 11:00 and 13:00, 0+). This is a solo performance with interactive elements, a great way to start a child’s introduction to theater. The cozy, intimate space of the Children’s Lounge, a simple story easy to follow, a minimum of characters, and 50 minutes of action are key factors that help little ones concentrate and have unforgettable experiences.
At “Pokrovka.Theatre” there will be a performance for the whole family “The Tale of Tsar Saltan” (September 5 at 12:00, 6+). A story written by Alexander Pushkin will come to life with the help of music, humor, tricks, and clown acts. The theater artists specially mastered circus elements for the production, making the performance especially dynamic.
Concerts
The Musical Theatre named after K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko invites to the concert “The Alphabet of Emotions” (musical lounge, September 6 at 12:00 and 15:00, 6+). The host-reader will tell how composers of different eras were able to speak to the listener in the language of emotions. In addition, he will introduce children to the structure of orchestral instruments and their capabilities.
In at the Helikon Opera Theatre a gala concert will take place “My Moscow” (Stravinsky main hall, September 5 at 15:00, 6+). Star soloists, choir artists, and the symphony orchestra under the direction of chief conductor and Moscow award laureate Valery Kiryanov will perform works dedicated to the capital.
Moscow State Academic Theater “Russian Song” prepared a festive concert “My dear capital” (September 5 at 13:00, 0+). The audience awaits performances by the State Ensemble “Russian Song,” the folk-rock band “After 11,” the folk ensembles “Slavs,” “Russians,” and the multi-instrumentalist artist Alexander Varnaev. Excursions
In Lenkom Theatre of Mark Zakharov On September 5 and 6 at 12:00 there will be a tour “From TRAM to Lenkom”. Theater “Workshop ’12’ of Nikita Mikhalkov” organizes a walking tour “I Walk Around Moscow” (September 5 at 14:00, 16:00, and 18:00, 12+). The project combines the history of the capital, theatrical art, literature, music, and domestic cinema. The route starts at the theatre, then participants will visit picturesque Moscow streets, squares, parks, architectural monuments, and historic buildings. The guide will introduce guests to little-known facts, urban legends, the fates of outstanding Muscovites, and events that shaped the unique appearance of the capital. During the tour, works of Russian classical literature dedicated to Moscow, its history, people, and spirit will be performed. Afterward, viewers will be invited to one of the chamber halls of the “12 Workshop” theatre, where they can watch a film that has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the capital.
Oleg Tabakov Theatre will conduct a tour “From an Income House to the Legendary ‘Tabakerka'” (September 5 at 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, and 17:00, 0+). Visitors will learn the history of the profitable house of the Gribkov brothers on Chaplygin Street (house 1a). The building was constructed in 1910–1912 by architect Gustav Gelrich in the neoclassical style. The program immerses participants in the architectural appearance of the pre-revolutionary capital and introduces the phenomenon of Moscow communal apartments — a unique social phenomenon of the Soviet era.
Moscow Academic Satire Theater invites you to a tour “M.A. Bulgakov and the Satire Theatre” (September 6 at 3:00 PM, 16+). Theater occupied a significant place in Mikhail Bulgakov’s work. It was for the theater that the play “Ivan Vasilyevich” was written in 1935. In the building on Mayakovsky Square, Woland’s performance, which he arranged for Muscovites, took place. During the tour, visitors will learn where Margarita and the Master met and how this is connected to the Satire Theater.
Creative meeting
At the Moscow Jewish Theatre “Shalom” there will be a public talk “Territory of Trust” (Small stage on Novoslobodskaya, September 6 at 19:00). Guests will see how he interacts with the fluffy performers, learn the names of the most talented ones, their characters and habits. They will hear funny stories, as well as secrets of training and schooling from the trainer himself. In addition, the program includes a tour of the theater museum, where dozens of unique exhibits from around the world are collected, gifts from famous people, as well as prizes and awards of Dmitry and Yuri Kuklachevs. Among them is a cat given to Dmitry Kuklachev by Princess Diana after a tour of England in 1991.
Open conversation
Moscow’s Sovremennik Theatre invites to an open conversation “Capital. Voices of an Era” (foyer of the “Another Stage” venue, September 5 at 7:00 PM, 12+). The theater will host a meeting dedicated to the book “The Madness of the Brave. How the Legendary ‘Sovremennik’ Theater Was Born and Why It Forever Changed the National Stage.” The author is Evgenia Kuznetsova, who was in charge of the theater’s literary department from 1996 to 2021. She will talk about how she gathered material for the book, the difficulties she encountered during the work, and which stories were left out of the final version. Joining Evgenia Kuznetsova on stage will be actors Ilya Lykov, Darya Belousova, and Darya Frolova, who voiced the audiobook version of the book. The format of the meeting is an unscripted conversation. The author and actors will answer questions from the audience.
Master classes
Moscow Academic Satire Theatre prepared the master class “Stage Dance” (small rehearsal hall of the main theater building, September 6 at 18:00, 16+). It will be led by Arina Kirsanova, actress, director, teacher, choreographer, North American step dance champion. This unique open event is designed for those involved in dance — both professionals and amateurs. Each participant will try their hand at acting. The theater is known for productions where excellent choreographic skills are required from the actors, so it pays special attention to their preparation.
Theater in the Southwest will conduct master class in acting skills and stage movement (theater art café, September 5 at 12:00, 12+). The hosts are actors Maksim Metelnikov and Vadim Sokolov.
