From September 25 to October 3, a hackathon for Moscow transport will be held in Moscow, where participants will develop technological solutions for the capital’s transport system. The IT competition is organized by the “Transport Innovations of Moscow” Foundation, the IT company of the Moscow Government “MTTECH,” and the company “VSM-400” with the support of the Moscow Department of Transport. The prize fund amounts to four million rubles.
Participants of the hackathon will form teams of three to five people and propose solutions for four practical tasks related to Moscow’s transport complex. The main areas of the competition are artificial intelligence, data analysis, forecasting the operation of urban transport, navigation technologies, and digital services for passengers.
“Moscow transport is actively implementing the most advanced Russian developments under the directive of Sergey Sobyanin. We are always interested in the emergence of innovative tools to improve the quality and safety of millions of passengers’ trips. I am confident that the hackathon is an effective format for creating unconventional solutions and finding new talented personnel who, in the future, will be able to strengthen our development team,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
As part of the competition, developer teams will work on four areas. The first is backup positioning without global navigation systems. Participants will need to create a nonlinear mathematical model and software based on the ROS 2 robotics platform to calculate the speed and position of the tram.
The second task is AI-based forecasting of tram route loads. This will require creating a mathematical model to predict passenger flow based on artificial intelligence technologies, including machine learning.
The third direction is a predictor of changes in the movement schedule. The teams will develop an AI system for early prediction of disruptions in urban transport movement.
The fourth task is gamification for the high-speed highway (HSH). Participants will create an interactive training game with real work scenarios for HSH employees.
The hackathon will take place in three stages. The event will begin with an in-person meeting in Moscow. Then the participants will proceed to the main stage, which will be held online on a digital platform. The finale will be the in-person defense of projects before an expert jury in the capital.
Based on the results of the hackathon, the most promising projects may be recommended for implementation in Moscow’s transport infrastructure. Their developers will have the opportunity to collaborate with specialized organizations in the capital.
Specialists in development, machine learning, and data analysis, engineers, analysts, digital product designers, product managers — everyone ready to offer technological solutions for urban transport infrastructure — are invited to participate.
