In the Meshchansky district, the building of the Nabilkov almshouse will be restored. This is a cultural heritage site of federal significance. Over the years, medical and social institutions operated in the ensemble’s buildings, and now the Moscow Federation of Trade Unions is located here. “The historic building on Protopopovsky Lane, which today houses the Moscow Federation of Trade Unions, was built in the 19th century. During the restoration, specialists will need to bring its facades and roof into order,” said Natalya Sergunina.
Special attention will be paid to the interiors. Craftsmen will restore the molded and pulled decor of ceilings and walls, including rosettes, garlands, pilasters, and plafonds, as well as the flooring made of artistic parquet blocks, the entrance wooden paneled doors with historical patterns, and other elements.
The building of the Nabilkovsky almshouse has a complex shape with enclosed wings around an inner courtyard. Its central part is designed in the late classicism style. It is decorated with a six-column portico and topped with a rotunda with a dome.
The construction of the charitable complex began in 1828. The architect was presumably Afanasy Grigoriev. By 1831, the construction of the western two-story wing was completed, where a almshouse for elderly people from various social classes was opened. In the 1870s, the ensemble was expanded with new buildings.
During World War I, the building housed a hospital, and in the following years — the Nabilkovskaya Hospital and the Higher Border School of the Joint State Political Directorate of the USSR.
