The third international festival continues in the capital “Theatrical Boulevard”. On August 29, a program revealing the richness of Indonesian cultural heritage will be presented to the audience on Chistoprudny Boulevard. The festival is part of the project “Summer in Moscow”.
Program “Wonderful Indonesia: Unity in Diversity” reflects the national motto of Indonesia Bhinneka tunggal ika, demonstrating how the numerous cultures, ethnic groups, and traditions of the country are harmoniously intertwined. It is prepared by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Moscow together with the Moscow Government and is aimed at strengthening friendship, cultural dialogue, and humanitarian ties between Indonesia and Russia.
The program’s concept is related to the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence and symbolizes the country’s development through unity and a common goal.
At 3:00 PM, the audience will be presented with traditional dances from various regions of Indonesia performed by the Moscow ensemble Kirana Nusantara Dance. In addition, students from the choreography department of the Moscow City Open College have prepared a special performance. The Pencak Silat Federation of Russia will demonstrate this traditional Indonesian martial art to the guests, which is included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
At 17:00, performers of the Indonesian shadow puppet theater Wayang Kulit — another intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO — will take the stage. The performance will be accompanied live by the gamelan ensemble Gamelan Dadali. The plot centers on the story of how the mighty giant Prabu Boko keeps his kingdom in fear by demanding that each village take turns sacrificing a person to him.

Earlier, as part of the international program of the “Theatrical Boulevard” festival, guests from other countries presented their performances. Among them were the theater company “Total Theater” from Almaty with the interactive production “Welcome, Nauryz!” and the play “The Adventure of the Piglet Funtik,” as well as the Armenian folk dance and song ensembles Kayts and NJDEH with the concert Folk Spirit. The audience also saw performances and acts by participants from Spain, Italy, Switzerland, China, and the Republika Srpska.
The third season of the festival “Theatrical Boulevard,” organized by the capital Department of Culture, takes place from May 30 to August 30, 2026. The venues are located on Pushkinskaya Embankment in Gorky Park, at the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve, on Pokrovsky and Chistoprudny Boulevards, as well as in the park near the Polytechnic Museum.
One of the festival’s novelties was the mobile stage “Diligence.” It operates on weekends in parks in various districts of Moscow.
The festival helps make professional stage art accessible to a wide audience, integrate theater into the urban environment, and support independent, youth, and regional troupes. Its participants include leading theaters such as the Moscow Art Theatre named after A.P. Chekhov, the State Academic Maly Theatre of Russia, as well as renowned actors, including soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre.

“Summer in Moscow” — the main event of the season, which has already become a good tradition and an integral part of the capital’s life.
