Urumqi, August 26 /Xinhua/ — In the first seven months of 2026, 413,000 tons of fruits and vegetables were exported through the Khorgos border crossing in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (Northwest China), an increase of 28.1 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching a new historic high. Every day, a large number of refrigerated trucks loaded with fruit and vegetable products such as apples, nectarines, grapes, peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers pass through the China-Kazakhstan “green channel” for expedited customs clearance of agricultural and by-product goods. Then, the fruits and vegetables are sent to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and other countries.
As reported by Yu Chengzhong, chairman of the board of the local international trade company “Jingyi,” the current period is the peak season for the export of fruits and vegetables, and his company ships nearly 40 trucks daily with products totaling about 1,000 tons. In particular, if the fruits and vegetables were harvested in the morning and cleared customs at the same time of day, they can be delivered to markets in the Kazakh city of Almaty on the same day.
The Khorgos checkpoint is located on the China-Kazakhstan border and is the country’s premier land port with the longest history and the largest total volume of transportation in China’s western region.
