Beijing, August 26 /Xinhua/ — The administration of the Democratic Progressive Party /DPP/ of Taiwan is the biggest obstacle to exchanges across the Taiwan Strait, said Zhang Han, an official spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, on Wednesday.
Zhang Han made this statement at a recent press conference in response to a journalist’s request to comment on the strict scrutiny by the DPP administration of students applying to participate in educational exchange programs in the mainland part of the country.
Zhang Han stated that the DPP administration took extreme measures to obstruct normal cross-strait exchanges in education and youth interaction, adding that this step reveals its malicious intent aimed at intensifying confrontation and hostility between the two sides of the strait.
Zhang Han stated that the pursuit of peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation is the prevailing public opinion on the island. The desire of compatriots on both sides of the strait to become closer and strengthen ties, as well as the overall trend of exchanges and cooperation between the two sides of the strait, cannot be stopped.

Zhang Han also called on the residents of Taiwan to maintain sobriety of mind in the face of separatist rhetoric by the head of the Taiwan administration Lai Ching-te and to take a firm stand against separatist actions related to the so-called “Taiwan independence”.
